ENGAGEMENT DAY

Bhumi's POV!

"You look beautiful, Bhumi," Arohi said with a smile.

"Of course, I know. I always do," I said, winking at her.

"Oh! How modest of you, Bhumi," Bani added sarcastically.

"Sarcasm is not appreciated," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Who would have thought you would be wearing such an expensive gown on your engagement day, modern-day Cinderella!" Arohi said with a dreamy look in her eyes.

"You know we can always trade places," I said, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Oh no! No, thank you, darling. Only you can handle The Hulk," she said with a cheeky smile.

"I don't understand why you two don't want to attend the function," I whined at them.

They had sprouted some nonsense excuse to not attend my engagement function. How could they!

"We would look out of place there, sweetheart. And moreover everything is a sham. It would be better if we don't attend it," Bani said, and it made sense.

It would be better without anyone from my side. That would make this what it is.

A sham.

Finally, the day of the engagement party arrived.

Yay!!! Note the sarcasm, please.

I am waiting for my fiancé to come and pick me up so that we can arrive at the function together.

Hand in hand and all.

Rubbish!!

As if on cue, the doorbell went off, and Arohi ran to open the door.

"Good evening, jeeju," Arohi greeted him cheerfully.

What the hell. Did she just call him jeeju?

"Good evening! Where is Bhumi?" He asked.

"I am here," I said, coming out of my bedroom.

His eyes widened seeing me.

"Hello," I waved my hands in front of his face because he was still staring at me even after two minutes.

He shook his head and cleared his throat as though trying to bring himself back from some other land.

"You look..." he trailed off, looking me up and down.

"Gorgeous?" I completed for him cheekily, and he rolled his eyes.

"Of course! For a second there, I forgot who I was talking to," he mumbled under his breath.

"I heard that," I said, and he rolled his eyes again.

"You don't look bad yourself, my dear fiancé," I said.

"Geez! Thank you. I was waiting for your compliment," he said sarcastically.

"I know, I know. You were dying for my compliment," I said, winking at him.

"That was sarcasm if you didn't notice," he said.

"Oh really. But you look like you really wanted me to compliment you," I said simply goading him for my own entertainment.

"God!! Can we just stop this. We agreed to be civil with each other for at least today. Don't tell me you forgot," he said.

"Okay, my love! Let's go," I said, fluttering my eyelashes at him, and he raised an eyebrow looking at me.

"What?? We are being the lovely couple who are hopelessly in love with each other," I said.

"Of course, honey," he said and snaked his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

And what do I feel? Freaking tingles!!

As we neared the car, he immediately opened the door for me.

"What a gentleman," I mumbled.

"Remember, being civil?" he asked, and I nodded.

There was a comfortable silence in the car, but I am a little worried.

You might ask why I am worried?

Well, not only you, even Aryamann wants to know what is making me worried.

"What happened? You look worried?" He asked with a note of concern in his voice.

Was that really a concern? Or was it my imagination?

Damn, Bhumi! You are being delusional.

"Bhumi?" He called out for me.

"Huh?"

"You were worried and then you kind of spaced out on me. What is wrong?" He asked, looking at me in between his driving.

"Oh, it is nothing. There is a big party and there will be a lot of food," I said in a defeated tone.

"And why are you worried about that? I thought you loved trying varieties," He asked with a confused frown on his face.

"Of course I do. And that's what I am worried about. Damn etiquettes! I won't be able to eat freely," I said, and he rolled his eyes, but I saw his lips twitching, and I thought he was definitely going to smile, but he didn't.

He composed himself soon. Damn! Why couldn't he smile for once?

"You have to follow the etiquettes if you don't want them to make fun of you. Especially my fangirls who are now cursing you for stealing me from them," he said cockily, making me roll my eyes.

Freaking self-conceited narcissist!

"I don't understand why other people's opinions matter," I huffed out in irritation.

"That's how it works in my world, Bhumi," he said calmly.

"Fine. But you have to take me to Hyde Street after the party," I said excitedly.

"Hyde Street? Where is it?" He asked, frowning.

"You don't know Hyde Street?" I asked, gasping audibly.

"Why? What is so special about this street?" He asked, still confused.

"That street is famous for street food. A street full of small food stalls serving different varieties of food. And most importantly, no one is going to judge you there, and we can eat to our heart's content," I said excitedly, and he shook his head disbelievingly.

"I haven't seen a person who gets so excited at the thought of food," he said.

"Then take a good look at me," I said in a duh tone.

He is not that bad!
