"We're over."
That was the first thing Y/N heard when Gohyun, their boyfriend of half a year, sat down in front of them at the table where they had been patiently waiting. The words echoed in Y/N's mind, creating a hollow feeling in their chest.
"Are you serious?" Y/N asked, their voice strained, as they stood up abruptly, their hands gripping the table tightly. Their heart raced, emotions swirling between confusion and anger. They furrowed their eyebrows, trying to process what had just been said.
"It's not you, it's me," Gohyun responded, his voice calm but rehearsed. He stood up as well, glancing nervously around the crowded restaurant. The soft murmur of other patrons and the clinking of silverware seemed distant compared to the tension that hung between them. "Look, you're making a scene. Why don't you just sit down?"
Y/N felt their cheeks burn with frustration, not just at the sudden breakup but at the casual, dismissive tone Gohyun was using. How could he say something like that so casually? After everything they had shared, how could he just throw it away with a cliché excuse like "it's not you, it's me"?
"A scene?" Y/N shot back, their voice a little louder than they intended. "You just broke up with me out of nowhere, in the middle of a restaurant, and you're worried about me making a scene?"
Gohyun sighed, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Y/N, I didn't mean for it to come out like this. I just... I thought this was the best way. I didn't want to drag it out."
"The best way?" Y/N's voice trembled slightly, their hands still gripping the table as if it was the only thing keeping them grounded. "You thought the best way to end things was here, in public, without any warning? Without even a conversation?"
Gohyun shifted uncomfortably, avoiding eye contact. "I didn't know how else to do it. I thought maybe it'd be easier for you this way."
Y/N stared at him, disbelief washing over them. "Easier for me? This isn't easier. This is humiliating." They could feel the weight of the stares around them, the whispers of other diners watching the confrontation unfold. But more than that, they felt the sharp sting of betrayal. The person they thought they could trust had shattered their heart so casually as if it didn't even matter.
"Gohyun," Y/N said, their voice now low and steady. "If you ever cared about me, even for a second, you'd know this was the worst way you could've done this." With that, Y/N grabbed their coat, their body trembling slightly as they turned to leave. Their heart felt heavy, but they refused to let him see them break down. Not here. Not in front of him. As they walked away from the table, Gohyun didn't try to stop them. And that hurt most of all.
There was only one person Y/N trusted to go to at times like this, and that was their best friend, Namjoon. Despite being a global superstar as part of BTS, Namjoon had always been Y/N's rock, the one who never hesitated to be there when they needed him most. Their friendship ran deep—spanning from childhood, through all the ups and downs of their lives, long before the fame and the lights of the stage.
As Y/N aimlessly walked down the street, the sting of Gohyun's betrayal still fresh in their mind, they felt an overwhelming need to see Namjoon in person. Normally, the two of them would communicate through texts or late-night phone calls, but this time was different. They needed his presence, his calm reassurance that everything would be okay. With trembling fingers, Y/N pulled out their phone and opened the messaging app. The words they typed felt heavy but necessary.
'Are you free right now? I need to see you.'
Y/N stared at the screen for a moment, their heart pounding as they hit send. They didn't know if Namjoon was in the middle of a schedule, recording, or working on a new project, but if there was anyone who would drop everything for them, it was him. After a few minutes, their phone buzzed, and they quickly unlocked it, their breath catching in their throat as they read his reply.
'I'm free. Where are you? I'll come to you.'
