"Okay, we can help you, but I need you to tell us what happened..." my mom said calmly yet reassuringly. Xoey took a long deep breath in as she mustered the courage to recall the events that took place, her breath was shakey, as her fists were placed just above her knees they shook. Xoey began started off by telling us, about how Alice's false claims made tensions between her and her family, more notably her mother and her sister, worse. She described the tension as thick, and she recalled Xiomara's resentment towards Xoey because she had to cut the guest list down significantly.
After Xoey had gone up to her room after her "dinner" she changed out of her dress she had been forced to wear and put on sweats and a hoodie instead. She preferred looser fitting clothes anyways but her mother always wanted the family to look their best in their fitted clothes. She had fallen asleep in her glamorous room, and when she woke up, her mouth felt dry. She checked the time on her phone, it was 10pm. Dinner was over hours ago at that point, so she was looking forward to eating alone. As she had presumed, everyone else had gone to bed. So she went downstairs and walked into the kitchen. From there she saw the left overs in the fridge. She had taken the leftovers out of the fridge, put them on a plate, then heated it up in the microwave. While her food was heating up, she got a glass of water to quench her thirst. When she was drinking her water, she heard Daniel call out her name,
"Xoey?" Xoey spit out her water out of shock. She looked up and across the way was Daniel, still in his attire from Thanksgiving, his tie was loose and he had a glass of Brandy in his hand.
"What're you doing up?" He asked her.
"I was hungry." She told him softly.
"Oh, when you're done getting your food, why don't you come and eat in the living room with me?" He asked her.
"I'd rather not-"
"Please I insist, I think we have a lot of catching up to do." This struck Xoey as odd, but she hadn't been social with anyone in the house really. Plus he had been the only one to be nice to her, so she trusted him, a little bit. Daniel waited for her in the living room with his "th" glass of Brandy. Xoey walked slowly to the living room with her warm plate. Daniel sat on one couch and Xoey sat on the couch across from him, there was an awkward silence between them, but that moment of silence was interrupted by Daniel.
"When was the last time we talked and hung out?" He asked her. She tried to remember the last time when they were friends, and she said,
"It's been three years. It was right before you started talking to Xiomara." She told him plainly.
"Why has it been that long?" He asked her.
"Well, it's not like I would've been able to be friends with you. Not when you started dating my sister." She replied.
"Plus you've seen the fucking dynamic here. It's not like that display at dinner was a one time thing, that's been my whole life." She explained. He finished his glass of Brandy and started pouring himself another one as he nodded his head.
"Did you know, that I had no idea you and Xiomara were even related?" This came as no surprise.
"Of course you didn't." She rolled her eyes.
