It was a dark and rainy night, he was inside the dojo, being held by his older brother's arms as he clenched a piece of paper that was left to him by his girlfriend as he screamed and sobbed in anguish.
Memories of her flew through his mind.
...
Months ago,
Renet Tilley, known as one of the great Masters of time and apprentice to Lord Simultaneous was staring out the window, up at the stars with a slight smile before she looked down to Mikey who was resting his head in content on her lap as he played his game. "Aw man, I lost again!"
Renet smiled in amusement but it fell when Mikey, suddenly gasped, sitting straight up. "No way! April's pregnant?!" He turned to her excitedly but then chuckled in embarrassment when she did not look half as surprised as he did. "You already knew, didn't you?"
"Well duh, I am a time master after all! It's my job to know." Mikey let out a whine and flopped back on her lap. "Why don't you tell me these things?!" He pouted and she giggled while rubbing his head. "You know I can't, Mikey. Telling the future, even about something so small, can have severe consequences. You should know this by now after being with me for so many years."
"Yeah, I know, I know, I just...You know I never told my brothers this but I was kind of scared that we would die alone in the sewers," He confessed and Renet began to frown. "It's kind of the reason why I did stupid stuff, trying to make friends. Like accepting Bradford's friend request," He shivered at the memory. "After that whole thing, I started to think that my bros might have been right and that the humans would never accept us. But now, everything's changed! Mutants are everywhere now, we don't have to live in the sewers anymore and my bros are making families of their own!" He sighed happily. "It's just exciting to be able to have more members in our family...Now, we don't have to worry about dying alone anymore-well, they don't."
The last comment made Renet frown further and she looked away before gently moving herself off of Mikey who sat up, as she faced the window again sadly. "Renet?"
"Mikey...I feel like I am always holding you back from stuff that you want," Renet admitted and Mikey raised a brow. "What are you talking about, babe?" Renet exhaled. "Mikey, I was with you during all the times your siblings got married and I was with you when they started to have children and all those times I saw...the look on your face."
"The look of happiness?" Mikey asked, confused.
"The look of longingness," Renet stated and Mikey began to frown. "I'm sorry I can't give you more than you want, there is only so much of the rules of time I can bend but...if you really want to, you can break up with me and you can be free to marry whoever, to have kids like you want."
"No way!" Mikey refused without hesitation. "Renet, I don't need to marry you! To me, you are already my wife. Even if we don't spend everyday together, and I can only see you so often, we've been together for 12 years. I don't want anyone else, I just want you."
"What about having kids?" Renet asked softly and Mikey's confident smile fell a bit. "I mean...yeah, it does sucks that you and I can't have kids of our own because of stupid time rules or whatever but I'm okay with that. Just as long as you don't leave me." Renet smiled a little and reached for Mikey, to gently lay his head on her chest. "But...if there was a way for us to have kids, if there was a slight chance...would you take it?"
"Pf! Well, yeah in a heartbeat. But," Mikey added as he nuzzled closer to her. "I'm happy enough like this." He was soon asleep and Rent sighed as she rubbed his head and whispered, "But I want you happier." She stared at him for a long time then looked down at her stomach, putting a hand over it and she exhaled. "Lord Simultaneous, I'm sorry...but I'm going to need to ask you for a favor."
