Kael's POV

The dark stone walls of the castle loomed around me, casting long shadows that seemed to reach for my soul. This place, once a sanctuary for my ancestors, felt colder with each passing day. The weight of responsibility pressed down on me like an iron chain. As the Alpha of the Darkhaven clan, I bore the burden of more than just power. My clan, my family-everything rested on my shoulders.

And yet, despite the weight of the crown, my mind drifted to her. My Moon.

I found myself thinking of her more often than I should. The way her silver eyes shimmered in the moonlight, the softness of her voice even when she was furious with me. She was a light in the darkness, but she wasn't mine. She belonged to a different world-a world of purity, of order. A Luminari. I should stay away from her, but it seemed the more I tried, the more my thoughts revolved around her.

I exhaled sharply, trying to push her from my mind. There were more pressing matters at hand, but even here, in the heart of my domain, I could not escape her presence.

Lyra, my secretary, stepped into the room, her dark hair tied tightly back. She was efficient, cold, and fiercely loyal to the Darkhaven clan. "Alpha, there's news," she said, her voice clipped. "It concerns the Luminaries."

My chest tightened at the mention of them, but I kept my expression neutral. "What is it?" I asked, my voice gruff.

Lyra handed me a scroll, her fingers brushing against the obsidian ring that marked her as a servant of my clan. "There are rumors-something about a curse. But no one outside the Luminari knows the details."

A curse? My instincts sharpened at the mention of it. The Luminari were known for their purity and strength, their unwavering adherence to the laws of light. But if there was talk of a curse among them, something was very wrong.

"How reliable is this information?" I asked, scanning the scroll for any clues.

Lyra's lips pressed into a thin line. "The source is trusted, but it's all speculation. The Luminari are keeping it quiet. Whatever it is, they're hiding it."

I set the scroll down, my mind racing. A curse could mean anything-a plague, a weakening of their powers, or worse, something ancient and deadly. And yet, they'd kept it secret. Why?

I couldn't help but wonder how this would affect her. Was she in danger? Would this curse touch her, too? I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling to the surface. She was so far out of my reach, and yet here I was, worrying about her as if she were my responsibility. She wasn't mine to protect, but the thought of anything happening to her...

I shook my head. I needed to focus. The Luminari weren't my concern, not anymore. But as Alpha, it was my duty to protect the Darkhaven clan. If a curse threatened the balance of power between the classes, I had to be prepared.
