No one's POV
Two centuries ago, Vespera was a land of balance, governed by the Royal Council, the Luminari, and the Darkhaven. Yet, beneath this harmony lurked a force too powerful and reckless for the realm—the Obsidian Order (OO). A secretive class of magicians, the OO had risen to prominence due to their mastery of black magic, specifically rituals that bent reality itself.
Their power was seductive but dangerous. It wasn’t just the energy they controlled; it was the fact they could reach other dimensions. Creatures unlike any in Vespera were summoned from these realms—beasts of unimaginable strength and terror. One class of beings, the Night Shapers, became their most feared creations. Night Shapers were summoned from a chaotic, primal dimension, and they answered only to those who had mastered the darkest of magics.
At the height of their power, the OO sought to overthrow the Royal Council and take control of Vespera. Their ambition led them to break the most sacred law—the prohibition against black magic. The Royals, alongside the Luminari and the Darkhaven, declared war on the OO. The battle that followed was brutal, and though the Order was defeated, their experiments had lasting consequences.
The creatures they summoned, the Night Shapers, could not be banished entirely. And so, the Obsidian Order was cast out, stripped of their societal standing, and their magic was declared forbidden. They retreated into hiding, but they never truly disappeared.
For nearly two centuries, the OO remained in silence and shadows. Most thought their practices had died with them. But recent whispers in the dark suggested otherwise. The Order had returned, their rituals reignited, and once again, they were summoning Night Shapers into Vespera.
The Night Shapers are not creatures of this world. Pulled from a dimension of chaos, they are shadows made flesh, beings of pure darkness that can take on any shape. They are nearly impossible to control, except by those who have sacrificed part of their soul to the void. This is the price OO members must pay—a piece of their humanity for the power to summon and bind these creatures to their will.
The war that erupted between the Obsidian Order and the Royal Council, supported by the Luminari and Darkhaven, was more than a political conflict—it was a war of ideologies and magical supremacy. The Royals represented law, balance, and the rightful use of power, while the OO sought to control the very fabric of reality by using the forbidden black magic.
For years, the OO had grown in influence, practicing their dark rituals in secret, expanding their reach through the summoning of otherworldly creatures. These creatures, like the Night Shapers, were instruments of terror. Entire towns vanished overnight, swallowed by shadows. The Royals had no choice but to act.
The war began with a series of battles, each more brutal than the last. The Luminari, with their mastery of light magic, were the first to confront the Obsidian Order. They tried to dispel the dark forces with purifying light, but the Night Shapers were not easily undone. It soon became apparent that light alone was not enough to fight the void-born beings.
The Darkhaven, with their understanding of more primal forces, joined the effort. Their warriors, often mistaken for rogues or outlaws, were adept at the shadows and the darker aspects of the world. Yet even they struggled against the unnatural chaos the OO unleashed.
The final battle took place on the Plains of Morrath, a barren wasteland that became the backdrop for one of the most devastating clashes in Vespera’s history. The OO, desperate to maintain control, performed their most dangerous ritual yet. They opened a massive rift to the Chaos Dimension, summoning not just Night Shapers, but a legion of creatures that bent the very laws of nature.
For a moment, it seemed the Royals might lose. But then, the combined forces of the Luminari and Darkhaven managed to close the rift, forcing the creatures back into the void. Many sacrificed their lives in this effort, their souls forever trapped between dimensions.
Though the Obsidian Order was defeated, the victory came at a great cost. The Plains of Morrath became a cursed land, where nothing would grow, and the presence of the void could still be felt in the air. The Night Shapers that remained scattered, waiting in the shadows for their chance to rise again.
The Royals, having suffered heavy losses, declared all black magic forbidden. The surviving members of the OO were exiled, their lands and titles stripped away. They became nothing more than outcasts, their names spoken in fear or disdain.
For two centuries, the OO lived in the fringes of society, their rituals performed in secret, their influence nearly forgotten. But now, as whispers of their return spread across Vespera, it’s clear that the Order has not forgotten their thirst for power. They are performing the same dark rituals once again, and the Night Shapers have returned to walk among the shadows of the world.
The Royals are preparing for war once more, but this time, the enemy is smarter, more secretive, and far more dangerous.
As the rituals begin again and the Night Shapers stir, there is one question that remains unanswered:
"Why was Luna, a Luminari, involved in a war meant for the Royals and Darkhaven against the Obsidian Order?"
This question lingers, casting a shadow over everything that is yet to come.
