Isabella had managed to sleep until one in the afternoon once they transferred her successfully into their big king bed. The girl stirred once they diapered her up, she had slipped right back getting into the car so they didn't want her to have an accident. The mothers had taken a nap but were used to their sleep schedules being messed up due to work so they were up within a few hours of getting home. Carina opted to go ahead and head out to shop for Maya and big Isabella so the wives could go together later on in the week after little Isabella made her list to Santa. They were so excited to do all the fun youthful things Christmas had to offer. They knew their neighborhood lit up like the Fourth of July normally with Christmas lights so they planned to take the girl for a walk a few times this month to see everything. The park was doing a winter festival with games and hot chocolate, people drawing Christmas designs on the sidewalk for everyone to look at. Carina and Maya loved going every year but this time their baby was going to be with them. Maya had just finished making Isabella a grilled cheese when the brunette came out of the bedroom with her hair a mess. She groggily sat in the chair, laying her head down on the table as Maya chuckled at her. She grabbed the girl's hairbrush from the bathroom and made quick work of brushing through the knots, tying her hair into a ponytail so the girl didn't have to worry about it getting in her face. Maya put the plate of food in front of Isabella, cutting it into triangles for the girl before walking away to grab her some juice in her sippy cup. Isabella was already finished with her first triangle, Maya reminding her to eat slower so she didn't choke with the promise of having a snack later if she was still hungry.
"Mama, can you tell me more about Christmas please?'' The brunette whispered, a blush on her face for not understanding the hype of it all. She saw the way Maya and Carina's eyes twinkled whenever they discussed holidays and birthdays. She didn't get the appeal to it all. Why did everyone feel the need to celebrate just another day? She picked at her nails, waiting for the laugh but it never came. She looked at her Mama, smiling shyly when Maya held her hands and squeezed them softly.
"What do you want to know, sweet girl?" Maya asked, not wanting to overwhelm the shy girl. She knew the holidays could be a lot for anyone who didn't celebrate and she assumed correctly that the girl never celebrated. She picked up on the girl's anxious tics. The way she would firmly bite her lower lip, picking at her nails until they bled, tugging softly on her hair when the emotions got too much. Both mothers had picked on them quickly, always redirecting with comforting touches and reassuring words.
"Why do you and Momma like Christmas so much? What do we do during Christmas?" The girl rushed out the questions, feeling silly for asking them. She felt childish but never stupid whenever she asked her Mamas something. They always made her feel like she was the smartest in the room. Isabella had noticed the hospital already had huge Christmas trees in the building, almost on every single floor. All of them were various colors and ornaments. She was absolutely entranced with them on each floor she was brought on to. Carina kept having to drag the girl away from each one, not realizing until she was steps away from the brunette that the girl wasn't following her. She had allowed her some time to enjoy each one, as she studied them curiously. Isabella thought her favorite one so far was the regular green with the pretty multicolored lights. The Italian made a mental note of it, texting Maya so they could find the exact one, opting to go for a fake one not knowing if the girl would be allergic to a real one yet. They didn't want to spend their first Christmas season in the hospital for an allergy.
"We love Christmas because it's magical. It feels great outside and the lights are gorgeous. This Christmas we have you! You're our best gift, Bella. We normally wrap each other's gifts in different rooms then on Christmas morning or night, depending on our work schedules, we open them together. This year, we made sure we all got the whole day off so you could have a great first Christmas. Normally, you get a Christmas tree and decorate it however you like, then we will go to the store and get Momma some gifts to wrap and put under the tree. At some point, we can do all the baking activities everyone does but we have to wait for Momma because I do not belong in the kitchen." Maya chuckled out the last part, watching as the girl absorbed all the information before beginning again. "Sometimes it snows during the winter festival so we can't see the sidewalk art but we will still be able to play games and drink hot chocolate while we walk around. Everyone blasts Christmas music all the time which can get annoying but I think you'll like it baby."
