Faye stepped into her apartment, her heart heavy with the weight of everything that had happened between her and Yoko. She hadn't been home in what felt like forever, and now, the space that once felt alive with warmth seemed cold and unfamiliar. The little things struck her immediately: Yoko's hair tie left on the coffee table, her favorite book still half-read on the couch, and the lingering scent of her perfume in the air. Faye's chest tightened as she realized how distant she had become, how she had emotionally distanced herself from the one person she loved most.
She wandered through the apartment, running her fingers along the kitchen counter, where they'd once stood laughing as they tried to cook together. There was the chipped mug Yoko insisted on using despite Faye's protests, and the small blanket Yoko always pulled over herself when she curled up on the couch to read. The memories flooded her mind, each one a reminder of how much Yoko had meant to her, how much she still meant to her.
Yet, Faye had pushed her away. Out of fear? Out of shame? She didn't know. All she knew was that she loved Yoko more than she could ever admit to herself.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed in her pocket, breaking the silence. It was Nam. Faye picked it up, her voice quiet, "Hey, what's up?"
Nam's voice on the other end was shaky. "Faye, you need to come to the hospital... Yoko's been in an accident."
The world around Faye froze. "What?" she whispered, her hand clutching the phone as if it were the only thing holding her together.
"She got hit by a car. She's stable, but you need to get here now," Nam said, the urgency in her voice pulling Faye out of her shock.
Faye's heart raced as she grabbed her keys and ran out the door, her thoughts spinning out of control. She couldn't lose Yoko, not after everything. How could she have let things get so bad between them? She had to tell her... she had to say it. The words she'd kept buried for so long were now fighting to escape, but what if it was too late?
When she arrived at the hospital, Faye could barely hold herself together. She rushed to Nam, her eyes wild with fear. "Where is she? Is she okay?"
"She's in a room now. You can go in," Nam said, her eyes softening as she placed a hand on Faye's shoulder. "Go. Talk to her."
Faye nodded, her legs trembling as she made her way to Yoko's room. When she stepped inside, she saw Yoko lying there, pale but breathing, her eyes closed. Faye's heart ached at the sight of her. She moved closer, sitting beside her, her hand brushing Yoko's cheek gently.
"Yoko... I'm so sorry," Faye whispered, her voice breaking. "I've been such a fool. I pushed you away because I was scared. I thought if I let myself love you, I'd lose control, and I didn't want to be vulnerable. But now... now I realize I was losing you anyway."
Tears rolled down her face as she continued, "I love you, Yoko. I've loved you for so long, and I don't know why I couldn't just say it. I thought I was protecting myself, but all I did was hurt you. I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you."
Just then, Yoko stirred, her eyes fluttering open. Faye held her breath, afraid to hope.
Yoko's lips curled into a small, weak smile as she looked at Faye. "You idiot," she whispered, her voice hoarse but filled with warmth. "Why didn't you tell me all this sooner?"
Faye blinked, confusion crossing her face. "What?"
Yoko sat up slowly, wincing slightly but grinning. "You know, I had to hear this eventually, but I didn't think it would take an accident to get you to spill your guts."
Before Faye could respond, the door creaked open, and Nam walked in, a smirk on her face. "Well, looks like my plan worked."
Faye looked between Yoko and Nam, her confusion growing. "What plan?"
Yoko laughed, the sound light and relieved. "There was no accident, Faye. Nam set this whole thing up. I wasn't hit by a car, I just needed a way to get you to confess."
Faye's jaw dropped, her tears now replaced by a pout of disbelief. "You did all this just to make me confess? Are you serious?"
Yoko grinned, nodding. "I couldn't get through to you any other way. You're too stubborn for your own good."
Nam chuckled from the doorway, "It was either this or you two would dance around your feelings for another year. I couldn't take it anymore."
Faye sat back in her chair, wiping her tears away with a mixture of relief and exasperation. "You two are impossible. I was about to have a heart attack, and it's all because of your little scheme."
Yoko reached out, taking Faye's hand in hers. "It worked, didn't it? Now I know how much you care about me."
Faye looked into Yoko's eyes, feeling the depth of her love for her in that moment. She squeezed her hand, smiling softly. "You always knew, didn't you?"
"Yeah," Yoko said, her voice tender. "But it's nice to hear it from you for once."
Faye leaned in, pressing her forehead against Yoko's, her heart finally feeling at peace. "I love you. I won't hide it anymore."
"I love you too," Yoko whispered back, pulling Faye into a soft, lingering kiss.
Nam rolled her eyes playfully, crossing her arms. "Okay, lovebirds. Now that we've settled this, can we all just agree that I'm the real hero here?"
Faye glanced at her, shaking her head with a smile. "You're ridiculous, Nam."
Yoko laughed, resting her head on Faye's shoulder. "Yeah, but she's our ridiculous friend."
Faye felt a warmth spread through her chest, the tension and fear that had gripped her heart for so long finally easing. For the first time in a long while, she felt whole again, surrounded by the people she cared about the most.
As she held Yoko close, she couldn't help but feel a sense of hope for the future. The walls she'd built around herself were finally coming down, and with Yoko by her side, she knew she could face anything.
