You don't know fear
Until alone at night
You know no one's there
But you're scared they're here
Until the past is gone
And he is too
But still you watch the shadows
All day long
Until the simple sight
Of a red pickup truck
Chills you to the core
And you're ready to fight
Until you know you'll be fine
But you still lock the door
And grab a knife
Cause the nagging in your mind
Until everyday's a task
That you have to face
And the smile you wear
Is the perfect mask
Until you sleep with a knife
And turn on all the lights
Because the lock on the door
Could give in tonight
Until you sit in your room
On the closet floor
Hoping that for once
He won't find you
Until you can't wear shorts
Because they show too much
And you know there are
Horrid people in this world
Until a simple flirt
Sets off an alarm
Cause the last guy that said that
Forced his hands up your skirt
Until everywhere you go
It always persists
The remembrance of sin
One you wish you'd never known
You don't know fear, you see
You don't know the thing
That lurks deep in my mind
Until you've been me
