"We should just go."
Kit had told Lily and Boone everything. About what she had said to Kate, how Kate didn't feel the same. She had told them it all. Boone didn't see why they should stay and help. He had no problem saying so either. He'd just said it for about the millionth time while she was sitting on her bed and brushing through her hair. They'd managed to get a couple of hours of sleep, Kit had only woken up when the sound of Tyler's truck horn blared into the room.
They had to leave in about 20 minutes, Tyler had made that very clear. No one bothered arguing, Tyler wasn't always bossy but when he was, it was better to just listen. He could be really annoying when he wanted to be. Boone however was still complaining to her.
"Boone," she let out a sigh and turned to him. "We can't leave, this is important." Boone made a face.
"So you're just gonna stay here even if you're hurting?" Kit did not enjoy being called out like this. Boone was staring at her, Lily was watching and waiting for an answer - she'd been a little more understanding about the whole thing.
"I love her Boone." Her voice went quiet. Maybe it was stupid, but she couldn't just leave. This project - this taming of a tornado it wasn't just about Kate. It was something that Connor had talked about and in a weird way, she felt like she needed it to work so she could fully forgive herself.
Boone didn't look like he agreed, it was a difference from his usual bright and happy personality. Truthfully, Kit couldn't tell if this was just about the Kate stuff or if he was still upset that the rockets had been set off without him.
Taking a second to think, Lily was the next to speak.
"Are you sure you're going to be okay with all of this? It sounds like you've been in love with her for a real long time." Kit hesitated but then nodded.
"I made myself accept that she wouldn't feel the same a long time ago. The only thing I need is for y'all to get Tyler to stop saying she does." She glanced down at her feet.
Sharing a look, Boone and Lily seemed a little confused. Tyler was saying that? Tyler wouldn't have said that if he really didn't think it was true. Maybe they needed to talk to him about it. If he kept bringing it up, clearly he was serious about it.
Kit didn't notice this look, she was too focused on thinking. When she looked back up she'd put a smile back on her face. It wasn't authentic.
"Okay that's enough of that, let's go. We have to head out to the trailer dealer." Her voice sounded tight like she didn't want to do what she was saying. Despite this, she was going too because she wanted to help, she wanted Kate's dream to be a reality.
