6 MONTHS SINCE EF5
KASSIDY "KIT." LAINEY didn't know what she wanted in life anymore. If you would've asked her a few years ago she would have told you her dreams of being a singer. She would have gone on for hours. Now, she wouldn't know what to say.
She didn't still hate science, even if she wasn't all that good at it. Science, felt like it brought her closer to the people she had lost. It was also the thing that brought her the Wranglers, and the reason she and Kate ever reconnected.
The truth was, Kit Lainey felt a little lost. Sure she was with the Wranglers, and she had Kate. It still almost felt like something was missing. She didn't get it. She had everything in her life that she needed. In fact, she even had music back after so long. So why did she feel so lost?
KATE CARTER had a theory. It wasn't something she was hiding either. What was this theory? Well, it was simple. Kit still wanted to sing. Not the kind of song that meant playing at midnight in Kate's barn. The kind of singing she used to do.
The proclaimed Tornado Wranglers agreed with this theory. Actually, the minute Kate had brought it up privately? They'd all agreed. Kit missed performing. But how were they supposed to get her to perform...when she claimed she didn't want it anymore?
Kate didn't know how to ask her about it. It didn't help that a few weeks after the EF5, Kit had had to return to Arkansas with the team. She had asked Kate to come but Kate wasn't quite ready to leave Oklahoma just yet. This meant that the past few months had been a lot of late-night phone calls and constant text messages between the two women.
They'd seen each other twice since then and even with that, Kate missed Kit. Which is why when a string of storms had broken down in Tennessee, Kate- who'd been officially asked to join the Wranglers - had convinced them all to come. Though really, it didn't take much convincing and Kate was relieved for that. Now it meant she could see Kit face to face.
Laying in bed comfortably, Kate found herself wrapped up in Kit's arms. They'd reunited only hours ago and had barely let each other go since. Kit's eyes were closed and Kate could hear the soft sounds of her breathing and she held her tightly. Sometimes when they slept, Kit held onto her like she was terrified to let go. Kate hadn't brought this up, she didn't want Kit to let go.
Feeling Kit's breath, Kate looked up. Her girlfriend was fast asleep with no sign of waking up any soon. Unlucky for Kate, she couldn't sleep. So she was stuck lying in the dark. She may not have minded being wrapped in Kit's arms but that didn't mean she was happy to sit in the dark for hours without sleep.
Slowly she moved out from under Kit's arms. Kit shifted in her sleep but didn't wake. Kate tried to hold back over sigh of relief. Slowly she put on her shoes and pulled a sweater over her head before quietly backing out of the room.
