That night, Emilia snuck into her father's study, searching for answers. She rummaged through files, finding nothing incriminating. Just as she was about to leave, a hidden compartment caught her eye.
Inside, she discovered a newspaper clipping: "Laurent Family Massacre: James Thompson Suspected."
Emilia's heart sank. The article mentioned Julian's family.
"Why didn't I know about this?" she whispered.
Suddenly, the study door creaked open. James Thompson stood in the doorway, his expression stern.
"Emilia, what are you doing?"
Emilia's guilt turned to defiance. "What did you do to the Laurent family?"
James Thompson's face darkened. "That's none of your concern."
Emilia's eyes narrowed. "I have a right to know."
"You don't understand, Emilia. This is business. Stay out of it."
Emilia's world began to crumble.
Meanwhile, Julian watched Emilia's townhouse from across the street. His phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number:
"Back off, Laurent. She's not yours to play with."
Julian's grip tightened. Who knew his plan?
