Twelve

It had been a week since Tony and the others kicked Fury out, and since then, they were all on edge. They got intel that Belova and Maximoff were now working for someone called Zemo, which Romanoff was pissed about. Tony had managed to get it out of her as to why, and he wouldn't admit it aloud, but he was worried too.

Zemo had a wife and child, who were lost in Sokovia, and he wasn't known for being merciful, Tony was sure the guy would get his revenge on them somehow, and with two of their own now under his control, he didn't want to think of what would happen to them.

The others had a small mission, and they all returned a little weary but no one was seriously injured or missing. But the government were still quite tight lipped over what their plans were for the team.

'Hey!..'..

Tony jumped in his seat, his head swivelling around and seeing Romanoff in the doorway of his office... 'Don't do that!..'.. He huffed... 'Whats up?..'

'We're getting a little bored here, so a few of us are going into the city, figured I'd give you a heads up. If anything important comes up, call me..'.. She nodded.

'Who's going?..'.. He say back, fiddling with the pen in his hand.

'Me, Wanda, Steve and Sam. Me and her need the distraction..'.. Nat pulled out her phone, checking it.

'Ok. If you can, grab some pastries from the place on 59th Street?..'.. He asked.

'Sure. We did ask Bucky if he wanted to join us, but he doesn't want to leave. Can you do something to distract him? He's more grumpy and sour than usual..'.. She said, slipping her phone back in her pocket... 'You had to open your mouth the other day..'

'What?..'.. He spread his arms... 'We're all tired of waiting, and tiptoeing around them. Just date already..'

Nat laughed, shaking her head... 'He tries to avoid being in the same room as her, because you embarrassed him..'

'Really? I embarrassed Wall-e and its my fault he can't strap on his big boy boots and admit he's crushing on our witch?..'.. Tony rolled his eyes.

'Hes afraid of hurting her. That his nightmares could trigger his fight response and hurt her. To wake up and see he has his hands around her throat and he killed her..'.. She sighed, and Tony instantly felt guilty.

'I didn't know, shit..'.. He ran a hand through his hair, thinking of an idea... 'Ok, you take her out, and I'll talk with him. Those two will have their first date here, tonight..'

'Tony..'.. Nat said his name with exasperation... 'Don't meddle again..'

'Romanoff..'.. He sat forward, resting his arms on his desk... 'We're in no man's land right now. We don't know what's going to happen to any of us. Sure, we're still going to do missions, help to protect this world, but we can't miss out on living our lives. We sacrifice enough, so yeah, I'm going to get those two set up tonight..'

'You know, since you and Pepper got together, you've changed a lot..'.. Nat gave him an assessing look... 'You're a softie at heart, aren't you?..'

'Don't ever say that again..'.. He pointed his pen at her... 'I got a reputation to uphold..'

That made her laugh... 'Bit late for that. Anyway, I hope you know what you're doing, I'd hate for this to cause problems..'
