Steve stood outside the coffee shop, feeling extremely nervous. This wasn't a date, just an apology for yesterday. When they got back to the compound, the only ones teasing him about it were Tony and Sam. Bucky actually left his room to come see him, and talk to him about it. He had told Steve to just be himself, and to quit worrying.
Though they had still yet to find any new intel about their target, or to find out about Pietro and Yelena, the girls had insisted on picking out his clothes for this, and were currently sat inside the coffee shop, in a corner. He knew he shouldn't be here alone, but he'd rather have them with him than Sam right now.
He looked down both sides of the street, looking for the woman, Polly but he couldn't see her yet. They had arrived a little early, as to not leave her waiting, but a yellow cab pulled up, and Steve instantly saw her inside it. He stepped forward, getting the door as she paid the driver, opening it for her... 'Uh, hi..'.. He said, as she looked up at him.
'Hello again..'.. She thanked the driver and got out. He closed the door for her, and stepped back again, shoving his hands into his pockets. His eyes quickly took her in, noting Sam's jacket in her hands... 'Oh. Um, here..'.. She thrust it out to him... 'Please tell him thank you for this..'.. Steve took it, noting the hesitancy as she spoke, as if she was uncomfortable.
'I'm really sorry about it, I'm not normally that-..'..
'Its ok, my fault really, I shouldn't have had my nose in the phone..'.. She shook her head, fidgeting with the bag across her body... 'I'm not used to technology. Didn't even know what a phone was until a few months ago..'
Steve could tell by the way she was standing, shifting from one foot to the other, the way her shoulders were up slightly, she really wasn't comfortable... 'Uh, i-if you don't want a drink, it's ok..'
'Its not that, just not used to all this..'.. She gestured around... 'Its a long story, but I won't ever say no to a hot chocolate, especially if someone else is buying..'.. A smile pulled on her lips, and Steve nodded.
'Sure. Shall we go inside?..'.. He stepped aside, tilting his head to the door and she walked towards it. Steve got there first, pulling it open for her, and following her in... 'Uh, do you want to pick a table? I'll get us drinks. Do you want anything to eat?..'
'Anything chocolate, if that's ok?..'.. She smiled at him, and he returned it.
'Yeah, no problem. You sit down, and I'll bring it over..'.. He watched as she looked around, and took a table to the left side. Nat and Wanda were in the right corner, and he noted they were peeking over. Nat gave him a grin and a thumbs up, and even with Wanda sitting sideways, he could see her shaking with a laugh. He rolled his eyes, heading to the counter to place their order.
He stole a glance over to Polly, who had shrugged off her jacket and bag. Her pale blue blouse really set off her eyes. When he was called, he grabbed the tray, and took it over, setting down, hoping his nerve would go away... 'I'm sorry about your phone, do you need a new one?..'
'You don't have to keep apologising, it's alright, honestly. It was given to me by-..'.. She sighed... 'I'm just not sure if I'm allowed to say, but I don't know about keeping secrets..'
'You don't have to tell me anything..'.. Steve picked up his coffee, and took a sip.
'Its not that..'.. She looked around the shop, and lowered her voice... 'Witness protection..'
