I felt a familiar ache that keeps me up with grieve
Replayed our last conversation, while you were sound asleep
In our hometown that we hate when we feel melancholy
Thought it was different, but you were too polite to leave

I retraced the rusty pages of our manuscript
But faded ink only showed what I've already seen
Couldn't stop wondering, where did it all go wrong?
Maybe if time was kind, our spine wouldn't come undone

Eclair on my nightstand, your gift was buried underneath
Found out the artifact was the margin we were dealt with
When you left the page untouched, you were so kind
But I knew what you knew, cause I know your great mind

The renegade who needs me, but not the way I need him
You're the crumpled up paper of a lost chapter in my old diary
I'll still hold you in my heart, dearly
Just not in the way it used to be
