Darkness And Gloom

Over this world,
There hangs a heavy pall;
A frightful dark specter,
Of which all are born thralls.

The Prince of this world,
Rules with cruelty and malice.
He makes all born of men,
To drink from his cruel chalice.

"Behold, son of man,
Behold your doom.
Be enveloped by sorrow,
Darkness and gloom.

Your life, it is futile;
You have no worth,
Abandon all hope,
For you will die on this earth."

Whether poor or rich;
Robust and healthy or lame,
Death is hot on our heels,
Snapping at them with flame.

But those once lost in darkness,
Have seen a great Light.
The Lord of Creation,
Has made war with the Night.

Jesus humbly descended,
From His throne on high.
Full of grace and truth,
He came to stomp out Death's lie.

Fully God and fully man,
Here He lived a perfect life.
He set aside heaven's glory,
To come to us in our strife.

Then He died on a cross,
To pay the cost for our sin.
He shed His own blood,
To give us life again.

Then He rose from the grave,
And ended Death's cackles.
The Lion of Judah,
Tossed aside darkness' shackles.

With a roar He declares,
Good news to Death's captives.
The new life He brings,
Is to us quite attractive.

Death's tongue may still wag,
But its jaw has been broken.
Its teeth have been shattered,
For the lies it has spoken.

The true Son of Man rose;
He's the Ancient of Days.
He is loving and gracious,
In all of His ways.

Behold oh Death,
Behold your doom.
For God's Son has Risen,
From the tomb!

All who trust Him,
And rest in His love,
Will be raised up with Jesus,
To seats of honor above.

Behold sons of God,
Behold hope and glory.
The risen Lord Jesus,
Has rewritten our story.
