ENJOY THIS LITTLE SHORT STORY IN HONOR OF FINNY'S BIRTHDAY...
***
I wake up and Autumn isn't there. We've slept together almost every night since we confessed our feelings to each other.
She must have had somewhere to be. Or maybe she's helping The Mothers plan my birthday party later tonight. I'm sure that's where she is. I roll onto my side and close my eyes. Maybe I'll get a few more minutes of sleep before I get up and get dressed.
Just as I'm dozing off again, my door slams open and I shoot up to see Autumn with two huge plates of every breakfast food you could think of.
"Happy birthday, Finny! I was trying to be a little more discreet, but I think I'm about to drop everything I'm carrying so please help me!" I can see panic crossing her face and it takes everything in me not to laugh at her.
She's so beautiful.
"Autumn, you didn't have to do all of this. You know The Mothers are going to go all out tonight." I grab one of the two plates and set it on my nightstand.
She sighs as she regains her composure and grins towards me.
"Of course, I already know that silly. But I wanted to do something special for you without The Mothers. You're special to me, Phineas Smith." She bounds towards me and throws her arms around me to give me the best hug I've ever received.
"Autumn, being able to call you mine is the only birthday gift I'll ever need." And with that, I pull her into a kiss that lingers in the air long after we've pulled apart, and we enjoy Autumn's homemade breakfast together.
This is going to be my best birthday yet.
