Every meeting the Yakuza holds takes place at the rooftop of the building housing our bar and apartment. The building is five stories high, designed with brick that was wearing away day by day. I took a foldable lawn chair to the roof with a full bottle of whiskey and a joint rolled with the best marijuana to touch the streets of New York. The roof was flooded with broken beer bottles, panties, pill bottles, and tobacco wraps. Not only was this our typical meeting location, but my brother held his VIP parties for the highest-ranking members along with our most profitable prostitutes.
I set my chair up at the edge of the roof, kicked my feet up on the ledge, and lit my joint. It was cloudy today, the sky had a gray tint to it, with fog floating through the air, and a gloomy vibe permeated the atmosphere. I knew what I had to do to protect my brother, kill everyone in the Yamaguchi-Gumi Family. Then crown myself head of the faction to take control of the situation. The Yakuza operates primarily on strength and ambition, if you manage to slay a higher-ranking member, then you assume their position in the hierarchy. The Yakuza accepts no weakness, therefore if you are defeated by a lesser, it does nothing but prove your inability to rule in their eyes.
Unlike most, I don't care to lead I despise the idea of being in charge of the operations of this God-forsaken organization. But, if taking control of this faction ensures Domi's safety, then I'll do what I must... After all, he's the only family I have left. I waited an hour to allow Domi time to arrive at the safe house, years ago I plugged a GPS microchip into his phone to track his location in case of an emergency. I checked the GPS to be sure he made it there with no delay. After reassuring myself of his security, I made a call to the head of the faction, Lee.
Lee, like me, was a man of few words but swift with his blade. Lee also did not like to feel as if he was being toyed with. "Hello, is Lee there?." He answered, "My beloved Kairo, are you ready for today's meeting?" I answered quickly, "Yes sir, I am awaiting your arrival at the usual location. When will you be arriving?" I asked, "Soon, is there a party being thrown for my return? I would like Akami to be there, she served me well last time!" Lee replied enthusiastically. I squeezed the phone angrily, cracking my screen. I remained silent, "Kai, are you still there?" He asked, with maniacal laughter following. "Yes, she'll be here," I responded with agitation creeping through my voice like a breeze through the crack of a door. He ended the phone call after my reply, he could sense my irritation seeping through the phone.
Akami, once a young innocent girl was forced into the Yakuza as one of our most noble escorts. She is the highest-paid woman within the organization, only called upon to enter the bed of the most prestigious members of the family. She is also the woman who stole my heart from the moment I caught a glimpse of her overbearing yet humble presence. I still remember the day...
It was a gloomy night, a storm raging through the streets of New York, lightning struck cell towers, waves of rain flooded the roads, and the thunder crackled and echoed through my ears like a firecracker. Domi and I were sent out on a mission to assassinate the leader of a rival gang. We arrived at the home of our target, we watched through the glass window of their three-story house. I could see him and his wife in the living room eating food together as they comforted their baby boy in his arms. The baby cried so loud I could hear his whines whisking through the thick brick walls of their home.
I ordered Domi to sneak into the backyard searching for a backdoor or unlocked window. The voice of the storm roared so loud, that they weren't able to hear me picking the lock on the front door. After a few seconds I managed to break the lock, I slowly cracked the door open just enough for me to slip in. It creaked as I shut it behind me, suddenly I heard footsteps approaching the front door. Due to the power lights flickering on and off, I wasn't able to assess my surroundings but with a hint of moonlight, I was able to see a door under the staircase. I tiptoed over to the door and hid myself inside the dark room, "Akami! Did you open the door?" I heard the man yell, "No dad!" A voice shouted back from the top of the stairs. I waited in the room anxiously for a chance to escape the darkness of the room.
