A few days went by, and we spent our time surveying any nearby areas with the presence of demons. They were all gathered in Chinatown of New York City, the streets were infested with evil spirits. There were more creatures like the bat-winged devil we fought before, at least 20 of them hovering in the sunless sky. I noticed in Limbo the atmosphere was always gloomy, with a mysterious mist that engulfed the world.
Gargoyles were sitting on the rooftops of the buildings surrounding Chinatown. There were eight of them in total, their bodies were gigantic from a distance they seemed to be 8 feet tall, their arms and legs the size of boulders, and their eyes were a glowing red. Their bodies were pale and gray, and their veins were prominent, almost popping out of their skin with a dark purple tint. Every Gargoyle was equipped with either a war hammer or battle axe. Alivia and I also noticed a multitude of lower-level monsters roaming the streets, most likely waiting for us to appear again.
We decided to lay low, in the meantime, Alivia taught me some things about my newfound powers. She informed me that for every devil I killed, my abilities would be upgraded, if I defeated a strong enough demon I could even acquire a new skill. Every night one of us has been outside patrolling while the other slept, ensuring that no evil spirits find our hideout. I've been using my time on patrol to train and hone my abilities.
It's been five days since we've arrived in Limbo. Alivia and I were walking to the hideout after a long day of surveillance, "It seems the devils have grown drastically in numbers, it's only a matter of time before they find us." Alivia said to me. A smile came across my face, stretching from ear to ear, I chuckled meticulously, and replied "I'm counting on it! I've been doing a ton of training, slaying those devils will be child's play" I could feel God's gifted power surging through me.
"Well lucky for you Kai, you're on patrol duty tonight, hopefully, they won't kill you before I come to your rescue." "My rescue? As if I'd ever ask a woman for help! All I need you to do is use your little compass to point me in the direction of the fuckers I have to kill!" Alivia scoffs and replies, "Please stop with the foul language it is so unattractive!" "Good thing I'm not trying to attract you." She grunts and storms off ahead of me. "Brat.." I whispered to myself.
'Wow, she acts a lot like Akami...'
I finally made it back to the apartment, I walked through the door and hollered "Alivia! I'm headed to the rooftop!" I waited a few seconds but heard nothing. 'That's weird, Alivia always yells at me before I leave..' "Alivia!" I called out to her again, but still no response. I slowly crept through our studio apartment, the wood floor creaking as I peered around the corners, it was dead silent. I checked the bathroom, but she was nowhere to be found.
I rush out of the apartment cautiously, dual-wielding my pistols, I run into the street and scan the surrounding area. There was no sign of her... 'Shit, I don't have the compass. Where the hell could she have gone?' Suddenly I heard an explosion, I looked down the street and saw an old warehouse down the street erupting. With my physical enhancements from God, I can run faster and jump higher, my reflexes are quicker also. I leap to the rooftop of our apartment building and sprint in the direction of the explosion hopping from roof to roof.
As I approach the warehouse, I see a dark cloud forming in the sky, casting an intimidating shadow over half of the city, 'This can't be good!' The closer I got to the warehouse, I noticed two gargoyles standing beside the wreckage from the explosion. But still, there was no sign of Alivia, the ground started rumbling, and high-pitched screams echoed through the air. I lift my head to the mysterious cloud, my eyes open wide. My stomach dropped at the sight, enlarged bat-winged devils poured from the cloud in a flock. Goosebumps scattered across my body, and for the first time in a long time, I was scared.
