"Do you ever wish you could choose who you fall in love with?"
"What do you mean?"
"Having control over it... Being able to choose a soulmate that's more convenient for your side... Not having to lie or live with the burden of a forbidden love?"
"It doesn't matter. Because even if I had to choose, I'd still choose you."
"I'm glad you still would've chosen me."
"I'm glad I didn't get to chose."
"Why?"
"Because if it were up to me, I would've just chose another thing I wanted, not what I needed... And I need you."
"I'm just afraid you're gonna lose me."
"I won't. This world will crumble before we separate. I promise... We'll always be together."

"Hey, ______. Wake up."
Your eyes weakly opened to see a young man hovering over you. "Jungkook", you lightly whispered, squinting your eyes to the bright light shining through your window. "What's wrong?"
"You over slept again. You're a princess, but you aren't a very good one."
You sat up on your bed annoyed at his comment. You couldn't blame him though, speaking that you did neglect some of your responsibilities. Still, being disrespected by a lower class citizen bothered you.
Giving a small glare, you got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. "What time is it?"
"Does it matter? You're already late for the suitor ceremony."
The Suitor Ceremony...
It was when the princesses and princes of every kingdom gathered to find a mate, arrange marriages, and form alliances. Even Knights like Jungkook could marry into higher class if he was charming enough. Missing this ceremony was unacceptable.
"Why are you giving me an attitude?" Your voice could be heard from behind the bathroom door. "I'm still your princess. It's not like I meant to over sleep."
Jungkook stood silent. He was already dressed in his white and gold uniform. With garb such as that, Jeon Jungkook looked like a prince. The other kingdoms recognized him as The Golden Knight because of his glowing charisma and skills in swordsmanship in the Land of Light.
"Aren't you excited?"
"For what?" You turned on the shower, trying to be as fast as possible.
"Don't give me that." He frowned. "The ceremony is held to find who you're going to marry. And you don't get to choose."
"Of course I'm excited... Well..." you thought of the words to say. "I'm more anxious. I need to make a good impression after all. I'm just afraid I won't be pretty enough for them."
The Golden Knight laughed in amusement. "There's more to it than looks. Even with your lack of sex appeal, you make up for it with your personality."
You frowned. That's not exactly what you wanted to hear, but he made a point. Even pretty girls can turn ugly if they were bitchy. You knew better than to give yourself that image. Besides, being royalty in the Land of Light meant keeping an innocent and delicate image. However, Jungkook knew you weren't that at all.
"What about you?" You asked him. "I'm sure there are tons of princess's who would love to marry you."
"I'm not royalty, Princess."
"But you have the required talents to be royalty."
Jungkook didn't want to think of it. Instead he just went into the closet and picked out a white and gold dress for you to wear. It was his favorite dress on you - and it brought out the curves and best features of your body especially well. He remembered the first time he saw you wear that dress. He couldn't help but admit his admiration for you after that night. You and him had been childhood friends since you were five years old. Jeon Jungkook was born a peasant but raised a Knight with a purpose of protecting and serving you. But now that he was older, the court allowed him to leave his service to your family.
Wrapping a towel around yourself, you went into your bedroom and quickly began putting on your clothes. Jungkook turned his head away from you, though he already knew what your body looked like in the nude. Times have changed too many times since entering adolescence with you. The days taking baths and sleeping innocently in the same bed were over. And now you were going to find a husband.
"Do you not want to be royalty?"
Jungkook starred at a picture of the two of you as children. It made his heart ache. "I don't care about being royalty. I just care about you--"
"Please Jungkook, don't bring that up."
"Why?" His voice grew harsh. "Why, when you know how I feel about you?"
You walked over to the dress and slipped into it. "We discussed this already. We can't be together... not when the kingdom needs to combine with another royal family to prosper. There's no economic gain being with y---"
"Alright, I get it. Let's just get you ready."
The coldness in his voice made your chest grow tight. Even when he passed you your shoes, you couldn't help but remember the night you wore that dress; the very same night he pushed you to the bed and ravished you, teaching you things about your body that you didn't know yourself. It gave you chills thinking about it; the very thought putting tension in your most sensitive area.
After dressing, you went to your vanity and awaited the hairdressers and makeup artists. Jungkook bowed before leaving, saying that he will be awaiting for you in the limousine.
If things were different, perhaps you would've married Jungkook. Maybe, if you loved him more than you did, you'd elope to some far away place. But you couldn't do that to your people. They loved and needed you to be a beacon of hope.
Taking a heavy sigh, you stared at the picture of a childish you and Jungkook, whispering the words:
"I'm sorry."
