Jungkook hesitates but starts nevertheless "So, uh, well, our last hangout didn't end the way I wanted to, to be honest"
The confession catches Taehyung off guard. He didn't expect Jungkook to, one, have noticed it, and two, mention it.

This is exactly what he had meant.

Taehyung should stop expecting anything. He should stop assuming. He should stop thinking he knows the younger. He has been proven wrong way too many times.

Taehyung gulps, the topic having hit a sore spot "I agree" he mumbles.
"But why are you apologizing? It was my fault" the older mutters lowly. "What you said wasn't exactly great but I could've reacted differently. I overreacted immediately and didn't give you a chance to explain yourself. I was really irritated to be very honest, but I regretted how it ended" Jungkook sounds sincere. So sincere that it makes Taehyung question why he evokes such genuine feelings in the other. Nonetheless, he stops his train of thoughts. Guessing is obviously not his specialty.

"What I said was stupid and I understand why you reacted the way you did" Taehyung sounds uneasy. "Do you really?" Jungkook asks sympathetically. "Listen, the joke was a sensitive one for me. It made me react without thinking. I felt terrible for letting you go without a smile. You were already not doing good that day and I made it worse" Jungkook looks down, his eyebrow slightly twitching as he bites his lip piercing restlessly.

"I had a lot of fun playing with you" Taehyung leans forward a bit to make the latter raise his head again. "Besides, you helped me so much. Lavender, remember? I think we were both a bit emotionally all over the place, mistakes happen" he smiles.

"You're too nice to me, hyung" Jungkook looks almost sad. "What do you mean?" Taehyung genuinely doesn't understand. "Why do you treat me like this?" Jungkook's gaze wanders between Taehyung's left and right eye. Taehyung frowns in confusion and lightly tilts his head. "All this time I have been nothing but dismissive. I always mess things up. I always push everyone away. I hate myself for it. Why do you still put up with me? Why are you sitting here with me? Drinking a coffee you obviously do not enjoy. Why, hyung?" Jungkook didn't mean to, but his voice wavers and he continues biting his lip habitually.

Taehyung cannot explain what he is feeling right now. He is shocked, surprised, caught off guard, confused. Mostly really fucking confused. Why on earth would the younger blame himself for the things Taehyung himself has caused. It's Taehyung's fault. Not Jungkook's. Taehyung is the culprit. Not. Jungkook.

The older clears his throat and leans forward with every, yet no, emotion readable on his face. "Jungkook, why are you saying things like this?" he asks softly, making the latter drop his head in discomfort. "It was never your fault. I messed this up okey?" He signals between the two of them with his finger annunciating the word 'this'. "You only reacted to my bullshit. Honestly, I should be the one asking myself why on earth you still put up with me? Why did you show up today?" Taehyung sounds desperate. And hurt. And stressed. He leans back in his chair and huffs.

Jungkook looks up at him in disbelief. "What would make you think you messed everything up? Right. My behavior. My attitude towards you. The way I treat you. That is what made you think you're at fault" his voice cracks and he pauses to breathe through it. "You did nothing but try to help me ever since we met and I for fucks sake cannot act like a normal fucking person!" Jungkook's voice echoes a bit and they earn a few glances. The younger gets up, feeling shaken up from his vulnerability, and paces into the men's bathroom, silently hiccuping in his tracks as he is forcing down the lump in his throat.

Taehyung is sitting at the table dumbfounded, people start chattering and mumbling. Not long after, he enters the bathroom himself. Jungkook is leaned over the sink, clutching onto the cold marble, sobbing. Taehyung is stood by the door silently. He doesn't know what to do. What is going on right now? He cannot recall how him making coffee turned into an emotional rollercoaster. Luckily, they're alone and Taehyung slowly approaches the upset male. "Hey" is all he manages to say and looks at the reflection in the mirror. The younger doesn't raise his head but crouches down, still holding onto the sink.
