Five Years Later...
New York, once a peaceful city with clean streets, low crime rates and happy citizens is now the exact opposite. The streets are filled with citizens, mutants, and Inhumans alike. Thugs were robbing and destroying buildings do what they pleased as they took over New York within the first year of Y/N leaving. Right now, one side is being held by the villains, AIM, The Hand, the Sinister Six and many more criminal organizations while the other side is being held by the heroes. On the villains' side, Captain America's shield is thrown to the ground and soon after, Steve Rogers falls to the floor, beaten up. He stands back up as he looks and sees Natasha on the ground, Iron Man slumped down, both defeated. Steve is then blasted back into a piece of debris. Steve looks up and sees the Sinister Six and the rest of Y/N's villains approaching as Rhino holds a defeated Wolverine as he is tossed away. The other heroes help Steve up.
Kraven: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, they said and we were told you were strong. You are just a man. A man with a shield. Y/N was more worthy than any of you.
Johnny: Shut up! Don't talk about our friend!
Electro: Your friend? What kind of friends belittle him? What kind of friends abandon him during his lows?
The heroes look down.
Electro: Exactly. You drove him away. He's gone from New York and look at New York now. We own it and no one can stop us. Not you, not the police, not even Y/N.
Hearing his name, the heroes felt regret as they drove Y/N away.
Steve: Avengers... Fall back!
Steve throws his shield buying the other heroes time to escape. Soon after, in the Baxter building, the heroes all entered wounded. They all sit down.
Tony: Where the hell is Reed at?
They go to the lab and see Reed working.
Natahsa: Really? We're out their busting our asses off to take back New York and you're in here, hiding.
Reed does not answer.
Natasha: Reed, goddamn it! Say something!
Reed slams the device on the table and he turns and Reed has an outgrown beard and beside the table are multiple beers.
Reed: What do you want me to say, Natasha?
Natasha: I don't know, but you cannot keep staying in here just because Susan-
Reed: Keep my wife's name out of your mouth.
Natasha: Oh, I'm sorry, I mean your ex-wife.
Reed turns to her angry.
Natasha: I know your divorce was shitty but you need to help us out there. New York is in shambles ever since Y/N left.
Reed: You don't understand, none of you do. I lost Susan and the kids all in one day. So, get out of my lab and let me work.
Natasha scoffs and walks off.
Natasha: This is why Susan left you.
The others soon joined as Reed continued to work. After, Susan left with the kids, Reed turned to alcohol to ease the pain and sadness he was feeling. All Reed did ever since Susan and the kids left is work and work nonstop with zero sleep as it was the only way to distract him. Meanwhile, Steve holds a meeting.
Steve: We need to do something. New York is the most dangerous city in the United States. Has anyone heard back from Julia and Clint?
Natasha: Nothing. It's been three months; I fear the worst. He might be dead.
