Sunday night, after the two had gotten tired of trying to figure out who the demon was, the two had gone to bed and it didn't take long before Theo was fast asleep.Despite all the stress he was going through, he was sleeping peacefully. A calm, dreamless sleep.
That was until a loud crashing came from the other room. Something shattering, it seemed like.
At first Theo brushed the noise off, still in the sleepy daze where he could ignore just about anything and give it no more than a second of thought before drifting back off to sleep.
That crash, however, was followed by more loud bangs in no particular pattern.
Theo instantly shot up out of his bed, suddenly aware of his surroundings. His heart sped up and was punching at his chest while his legs were refusing to move.
As he stood there listening to all the banging around within his home, he heard something else.
Grunting.
It wasn't until then that Theo realized just where the sound was coming from.
It was coming from the guest bedroom, where Val had been staying.
Before he could even think of all the possible things that could be going on in there Theo's body kicked into action.
He was at the door of the guest room in mere seconds, but by then the sound had stopped. Within the room came nothing but silence.
Theo practically threw the door open, nearly pulling it off its hinges. His hand flew to the light switch, flicking it on aggressively.
The sight before him was remarkable, though not that surprising—considering all the noise.
The window was shattered and the curtains were pulled down to the ground. The wooden dresser that had previously been in the corner was now knocked down and broken in the middle of the floor. The mattress of the bed was pulled half off and the blanket was across the room. In the middle of one of the pillows there was a large gash, exposing all the white fluff.
What really caught his eye though wasn't the room. In was the demon within it.
"Val" he breathed, frozen by the doorway.
Val was bent over with his hands on his knees, breathing hard. Theo couldn't help his eyes from lingering on the large cut on his shoulder, drops of blood running down to the demons hand and dripping from his fingertips to the floor.
Theo suddenly burst into action once again, approaching the demon and firing questions at him.
"Are you okay? What happened? Do you need help?" He paused for a second, something finally clicking in his mind. "Was this.. was this the demon?"
Val finally lifted his hands off his knees and stood up straight, revealing the cut on his cheek that was dripping slowly down his face to his neck.
"Val" Theo repeated his name, unsure what else to say.
"I'm fine" the demon finally spoke, his voice hoarse.
The two locked eyes, Theo once again mesmerized by the pure blackness of Val's.
Behind the demons eyes, however, was nothing but anger. Pure irritation.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Theo asked just above a whisper. "What happened?"
Val hesitated before responding, blood continuing to drip gradually off his face.
"It was the demon, the one in your congregation. I'm sure of it" he sneered, his hate-filled eyes shifting to look at the ruined bed.
