When Theo awoke Val was nowhere to be seen.He pulled himself out of bed in a hurry—a panic making him instantly awake.
Countless thoughts ran through his head. Possibilities.
The demon must've come back, and Theo didn't even wake up while they took Val.
Not to mention he had no idea where Val could be now. Did the demon kill him?
Theo rushed to the bedroom door and struggled to open it for a moment, rattling the doorknob aggressively.
His thoughts kept going relentlessly.
His heart quickened and his breathing was shallow. He could feel his legs below him start to feel weaker and weaker as he made his way through the house.
He practically ran into the kitchen, then the dining room. He had broken a slight sweat—more from anxiousness than physical strain— and his hands were shaking but he didn't dare slow down.
Pictures began to fill Theo's head. Images of Val, beaten and bruised. An unidentified demon standing over his body.
Theo nearly fell down the basement stairs, looking around frantically.
"Val?" He breathed, his voice quivering pathetically.
He ran back up the stairs, his weak legs slowing him down.
He stumbled to the guest bedroom and gripped the doorknob tightly, but didn't open the door. For a second—a quick second—Theo prayed.
He prayed silently for Val to be okay. He begged God to let him be alright, even though he was a demon. Even though he was meant to be in Hell but was living in a church instead.
He apologized desperately. He knew he had fallen farther from his Bible study and sermons. He knew a demon should be the last person he should associate with.
And yet here he was, pleading for him to be okay.
Once he had taken a deep breath and finished his prayer, Theo turned the doorknob.
He closed his eyes and he pushed the door open particularly slow. He was no longer frantic; no longer shaking or struggling to breathe.
And when he opened his eyes, the sight before him was nothing if not underwhelming.
"Are you okay, Theo?"
The priest stared wide eyed at the demon, who was standing a foot away from the broken window.
Val looked so normal Theo couldn't help but feel dramatic. He was in such a panic for nothing. Val was just in the guest room.
"Yeah" Theo muttered. "Yeah I'm okay"
Val didn't look convinced in the slightest but turned back to the window regardless.
Theo took a few steps forward, inspecting the window to figure out what Val was looking at. It had been patched up to the point where you couldn't even see out of it.. so why was Val looking at it so intensely.
"What are you doing?" Theo finally asked, taking a few more steps to stand beside the demon.
"Just thinking" Val spoke lowly, his eyes glued to the window.
Something in the demons gaze caught Theo off guard. He looked a tad angry. But mostly, he just seemed regretful.
"About what?" Theo asked.
He wasn't sure if Val wanted to talk about it or if he even had the right to ask, but Theo didn't really care. Not only was he curious, but he was a bit worried.
