"How was the party, Makia?"
Max and the others were gathered in the school's courtyard, taking a break after the first class of the day. The lessons had been more tedious than usual, and their curiosity about what kind of delicacies their friend had indulged in the previous night made them even less focused on the morning's teachings.
"It was fine, I suppose..."
"Be more specific! Did you dance?" Flora asked with eager excitement.
"A little..."
Makia turned her head to the left, toward the hallway leading to the nearest entrance. A young woman was approaching, wearing a floral dress and a wide-brimmed straw hat. She was slim, with striking features and golden hair. She smiled, looking strangely happy. That disturbed Makia. "How can she be so happy... when she's missing an arm?"
BOOM.
The sound of evacuation alarms pierced the city's early morning calm.
