He sent out a search party to find the guild leader, but he was nowhere to be seen.
He wondered if she hadn't found Pechenik and had simply given up.
Drurrrrrrrra-
Currrrrr-
After alternating glances between two mounds of bandages soundly asleep, he turned his focus to Chaud.
"Ever talked to this guy?"
"Who, Chaud?"
"I keep seeing him hanging around Erica. What's he up to?"
"He's normal, aside from being an S-class mercenary."
"You're skipping the most important part, Shurin."
"I don't mind, really. I'm just glad Erica finally has a friend."
Shurin strode in, balancing a pile of herbs.
As she organized them in the closet, something crossed her mind.
"But it's a little strange."
"What is?"
"He said he was from the east..."
"And?"
Karon stepped beside her, fumbling with the herbs as he tried to help.
"You know I'm from the East, right?"
Shurin had learned her healing arts there.
Though she had traveled across the Empire, the East was where she had spent the most time.
"You've never heard of an S-class mercenary like him in the East?"
"Of course not. Mercenaries were never my focus.... Karon, stop! You can't mix that!"
She smacked the back of Karon's hand as he carelessly tossed herbs together.
"Then what's wrong?"
The East was a vast, bustling part of the empire, a region of endless cities.
Even if this mercenary was famous, it wasn't surprising that Shurin, deeply immersed in her studies, had never heard of him.
But that wasn't the issue—
"That's not an Eastern accent."
Easterners spoke with distinctive dialects, but Chaud's speech had none of those traits.
His voice was neutral—clean and devoid of any accent.
"If I may say so..."
Where had she heard that tone before?
"Keuuuuuk!"
Jump!
The white ball of bandages lying still suddenly sat up.
It twitched, then rolled right under the bed.
A loud squeal followed the rolling bundle of bandages.
"What the hell!"
Erica's voice rang out.
"Shurin! Let me go! What kind of cocoon did you put me in?"
"Erica, you need rest. You've been pushing yourself too hard."
"I'm stuck! Get me out of this!"
Erica's booming voice echoed, and then—boom!
Another ball of bandages on the bed beside her blinked awake.
"...?"
As soon as Chaud sat up, he also rolled off the bed.
"Hey~ Chaud~ You're like this too~!"
