Kamryn woke up to the faint sound of birds outside and the smell of something burning. He groaned, rubbing his eyes before sitting up, quickly realizing he was still at Sebastian's place.
He made his way downstairs, stepping lightly on the creaky wooden steps. As he approached the kitchen, he saw Sebastian hunched over a skillet, clearly struggling to make breakfast, with Kuuru watching intently from the counter.
"Morning," Kamryn muttered, leaning against the doorway. His eyes scanned the room, noting the scattered potion bottles and the slightly charred pancakes.
Sebastian flashed him a wide grin. "Look who's finally awake! Want some... uh, toast?"
Kamryn smirked, shaking his head. "I'll pass, thanks."
Sebastian shrugged, returning to his culinary disaster. Kamryn's expression grew more serious as he crossed the room, grabbing a scrap of parchment and jotting down some notes.
"We leave tomorrow morning," Kamryn said abruptly, his tone shifting as he spoke. "I've got everything planned. No distractions. This is serious."
Sebastian looked up from his toast, catching Kamryn's intensity for a moment. "Right, right. Tomorrow," he said casually, waving a hand. "No distractions, I got it."
Kamryn narrowed his eyes, before sighing, the seriousness fading. "...You better, Seb."
Sebastian just grinned, gesturing to the stack of burnt food. "Now, you sure you don't want breakfast?"
"Your breakfast is... black. Like, all the way. You burnt it, dude," Kamryn raised an eyebrow, arms crossed as he stared at the disaster on the plate.
Sebastian looked at the toast and then back at Kamryn. "No, I didn't—" He confidently took a bite, but immediately choked, spitting it into the nearby trash can. "GOD—You're right!"
Kamryn smirked, leaning against the counter. "Told you."
Sebastian, still coughing, waved a hand dismissively. "Pshh, whatever, it's still edible in another dimension."
Kamryn rolled his eyes. "Yeah, a dimension where charcoal's a delicacy."
"Hey, maybe one day!" Sebastian grinned, before tossing the rest of the toast into the trash and wiping his hands on a towel. "Anyway, what's the plan for today?"
Kamryn's expression shifted slightly as he leaned against the table, arms folded. "Nothing major today. We head out tomorrow morning. I've got everything prepped and ready. No distractions, no detours."
Sebastian raised his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. No distractions."
Kamryn gave him a serious look. "I mean it, Seb. Hellfire's not someone we can mess around with. We can't screw this up."
For a moment, the atmosphere in the room tensed. Kamryn's focus on the mission was clear, the weight of what was ahead hanging in the air.
Then, with a dramatic huff, Sebastian tossed his towel aside. "I get it, I get it! Super serious quest, evil princess, life-threatening danger." He winked. "But, uh... what about my potions?"
Kamryn sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "You'll get your potions back. We just need to focus."
"See? That's what I like to hear," Sebastian said with a wide grin, pulling out a small jar from a cluttered shelf. "Meanwhile, I'll get some potions ready for our little adventure. Never hurts to be prepared."
Kamryn watched him from the corner of his eye, his smirk returning. "You mean, never hurts to be over-prepared."
Sebastian shrugged, shaking a vial. "What can I say? It's a talent."
