ESTELLE WAS RIDING beside him in the car, her presence was undeniable. She was enjoying the view as Louis kept driving. She pressed her hand against her face taking in the scenery quietly as Louis turned down Basin Street.

The street was alive with the sounds of music, laughter, and rowdiness. Estelle sat beside him, her sharp eyes taking in everything around them. She had always been perceptive, never missing a detail.

As they drove, Estelle's attention briefly caught on an unfamiliar white man standing on the corner. Their eyes met for only a moment as they passed she felt weird, tingly inside. She had pushed the thought aside, as Louis kept driving, not noticing the man but instead focusing on the familiar sights of the district.

Estelle snapped out of her thoughts as the car slowed as they stopped on the side of the road, This street was rougher, lined with shotgun cribs that peddled liquor, men, and sex.

Estelle had leaned toward Louis then, her gaze never missing a thing. As they slowed to a stop near one of the sporting houses, Louis looked at her, a question in his eyes. She had smiled back at him, the same smile that he loved. Before he could speak, she leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the lips,he smirked back at her and tapped her leg.

They stopped near Finn, a fat bouncer of Louis' establishment, walking toward the car until he was right there in front of Louis. With an envelope of cash in hand, he handed it to Louis with a nod.

"Mr. du Lac. Ms. Estelle," Finn greeted them.

Louis smirked. "You ain't hiding any bills in them fat fucking rolls of yours, are you, Finn?"

Estelle playfully swatted his arm, her eyes narrowing at him. "Louis!" she scolded, though there was amusement in her tone.

Finn shook his head, looking flustered. "No, boss. All clean."

Louis chuckled and turned the car back on, about to start driving through the crowded street, people tipping their hats in respect as they saw him.

Before they could pull away, Doris hobbled into the middle of the street, she had a peg-leg. It was surprising when she was hobbling in the middle of the street.
