Will's POV

Friday the 30th of November

"So, Mike seems to be a real special friend huh?" Jonathan asked, jabbing his elbow into my side while doing so.
"Oh shut up!" I exclaimed. I knew he was just joking around. He had known I was gay for a while, I just felt I had to tell someone, I couldn't take keeping it to myself anymore. And I knew I could trust Jonathan. I can trust him with anything and I know he'll love me all the same.

We had left the building and now made our way to our mom's car, I was excited to see her as it had been ages. Jonathan walked around the hood of the car to the drivers seat and I hopped in the back seat, putting my backpack on the seat beside me.
"Will! Honey how are you?" My mom said excitedly. She turned around in her seat to face me, and rested her head on the side of her seat.
"I'm good, excited to go home." I grinned, and she just chuckled.
"Well it's another three hours on the road so don't be too eager." She reminded me. It had been so long since I went home that I forgot how long the journey actually was. I slumped in my seat and she turned back around to face the road. Jonathan started up the engine of the car and we started our long journey home to California.

After some car games, sing alongs and naps, it seemed we had finally made it home. Seeing my house made me so happy. I always felt a sense of comfort at home that I just never had at school. As soon as Jonathan pulled up the driveway and stopped the car I flung the car door open, grabbed my bag and ran to the door, waiting for my mom to open it with her key.
"Wait a second Will!" She yelled, and slowly made her way to the door. It probably wasn't that slow, but to me it felt like an eternity of waiting.

When she unlocked the door I practically ran inside, and quickly made my way upstairs to put my bag away. It so nice to see the way nothing had really changed, not even the smell. I loved the smell of my house. I feel like that's something you can only pick up on when you're away for a while though, like the way all your friends houses have distinct smells.

I made my way back downstairs to where mom and Jonathan were sitting on the couch, and I plopped myself down on the armchair.
"Are you hungry Will? I can quickly make you something." Mom asked. I dismissed her offer, and just went to the kitchen to grab a packet of chips. When I went back to the living room, Jonathan was picking out movies from the shelf and laying them out on the coffee table. We all agreed to watch 'Karate Kid'. It was so nice to finally be able to do this with my family again. Movie nights were always my favourite as a kid. Jonathan always picked the best, because he went to the store and rented the newest movies. I couldn't even be able to count the amount of times we've done this but I know I'll never get bored of it.

Sunday 2nd of December 1987

Yesterday was really fun. Mom brought us to the movie theatre and we watched the 'Princess Bride' which I honestly liked a lot more than I expected to. She then dropped me and Jonathan to the arcade, and of course, we spent everything we had, like old times.

Today we were just gonna chill at home, as we had to leave for school at five that evening. I was just in my bed listening to music when I heard knocking on my door.
"Come in." I called out. Jonathan came in and closed the door, signifying to me that he wanted to have a serious conversation. I took out my headphones and sat up in my bed, giving him room to sit comfortably at the end of it.

"Listen man, I know I've been joking about it with you but, are and your roommate actually like, you know." I immediately flushed with embarrassment. Me and Jonathan talked to each other about being gay but never about actual boyfriends.
"I'll take that silence as a yes then. Is he good to you?" He seemed seriously concerned now. I know he knew how I'd been treated in the past. He was just looking out for me.

"He is. I promise." I answered, reassuring him a bit. He smiled and put his hand on my knee.
"I'm happy you're happy. But just be careful yeah?" I nodded and he grinned.
"I have to go out now so I won't be able to bring you back to school, but I'll see you whenever I can get more days off work and keep studying!" He exclaimed, making me laugh. We both got up and he hugged me tightly, before saying his final goodbye and leaving the room.

With this window of opportunity, I crept out of my room and across the hall to Jonathan's. I knew Jonathan was a bit of a stoner, and I thought me and Mike could use some fun. I mean, why wouldn't I take some free weed? After rummaging around his room a little, I found his stash in a tin box and took a little baggie of it, I doubt he would've even noticed it was missing. I knew Mike had rolling paper and filters for his cigarettes so that wasn't a problem. I quickly went back to my room and put it in my bag, sighing to shake off the small adrenaline rush I had worked up.

"Come down for some food before we leave Will!" Mom shouted at me from the bottom of the stairs. I came down and she was already cooking something in the kitchen, which smelt delicious. She had made us eggs and sausages on toast, something I'll never pass up on.
"This is great. Thanks mom." I said in between mouthfuls. She chuckled slightly and smiled at me.

"I'm just happy you're here. I'm sorry we have to send you back to school with the boy who broke your arm." She commented, gesturing to my cast. "I just know you'll get a better education there." And as much as Troy made me uncomfortable in school, I knew she was right. I would probably get bullied at any school anyways, so I'm honestly lucky to at least have friends who support me through it.
"It's okay mom. Plus, the football coach told me he'd be dealing with the matter so it's all good, seriously."
"I'm glad. I hope he gets what's coming to him." She smirked, and I started laughing uncontrollably.
"Mom, you seriously look insane." I giggled. She pretended to be offended but also started to laugh along with me, and we kept laughing about different things for a while, until it was time to leave.

She locked the door behind us and we made our way to car. I put my backpack in the boot and sat myself down in the passenger seat. As mom drove off, I got another last look at my home and knew I was going to miss it as much as I did every time I left to go back to school.
