Mike's POV"Will you please get off your fucking high horse and just thank me for making sure you didn't get lost and starve?" Will shouted. Is this guy being serious? He literally woke me up by just barging into our room as obnoxiously as he could. I guess he didn't know I was there though. And he did take me to dinner after.. not like that though. I guess I'll try my best to keep the peace.
"Thank you so so much for making sure I didn't starve you are so kind." I replied sarcastically. Did you really I would keep the peace? Nah, that would make this much more boring for me. He turned around in a huff and I smirked to myself. This guy was going to be fun to mess with. After he got his tray of pasta I watched him go over to what I'm assuming is group of friends as they were waving him over. They seemed really happy to see him. Surely this guy wasn't such a freak if he had a good group of friends because they'd all have to be insane to be friends with him by the way Troy talked about him to me. It kind of stumped me a little bit, and left me distraught as I didn't know this guy as well I thought.
"Next." The dinner lady said plainly while sliding the tray across the serving station harshly. What's up her ass the fuck? I gave her a glare and took my tray swiftly and weaved through the large tables. I spotted Troy gesturing to me so I started walking towards his table to sit down. As I was walking, I felt eyes on me so I turned to face the culprits. Of course it was Will and his little friends but they weren't staring daggers into me anymore, they were looking anywhere but me, scratching their heads and chins like idiots. This time, I actually did choose peace as I knew Troy would want to get involved and I just went and sat at his table.
"Guys this Mike, the one I was talking about earlier. Mike this is James, Patrick, Jason, and Andy. Guys he's the one that got stuck with Byers as a roommate." I nodded in acknowledgment to them all and began to eat my food.
"I feel for you man, that would be my worst nightmare." Said Jason. "If the little fag tries touching you or something come straight to us."
"Yeah man don't end up leaving over it like Chance, we'll look after it for you if the fairy wants to bum fuck you or some other gay shit." Agreed Patrick. At that moment I understood what this was about a bit more. Either Will Byers is gay and is being bullied for no reason or he's gay and molested these guys friend. Or.. maybe he's not even gay at all and they're actually just targeting him for nothing."I'll be sure to let you guys know.." I said, even though I really wasn't sure if I wanted to. I wasn't sure of anything about these people at that moment. I needed to find out more about Will Byers, and not from these people. I should try see what he's like for myself without Troy and his friends' opinions getting in the way. I've seen their type in my old school and they can be real bullshitters sometimes. They throw good parties though.
Troy and his friends kept rambling and conversing to each other but I just tuned them out. Without realising it, I found myself staring at Will Byers across the dinner hall. I was so curious about if this guy was a good person or not. He was just innocently taking to his friends, but he seemed to be annoyed about something. I watched how he threw up his hands as he spoke full of emotion, his eyebrows furrowed and hazel eyes narrowed. His back was hunched over as he was leaning on his elbows on the table, making the material of his jumper stretch and tighten. As I focused my attention back onto his face I realised that he was now looking with back at me. How long had he been looking back at me? How long had I been looking at him? We just kept staring at each other for a good ten seconds until Troy got my attention.
"The fuck were you looking at man."
"Oh, nothing." He looked frustrated I hadn't been listening to their conversation, which is fair enough as he had just invited me to his friend group.
"We were saying how next weekend there's a party in the woods behind school, you coming?"
"Yeah sure, that's cool. Do you guys have a lot of parties?"
"Whenever we can yeah. The whole school goes it's great." James chimed in.
Told you, they throw good parties.———————
After we discussed the party a bit more, the bell rang to announce that dinner was over. Troy and his friends were going to hang out in Patrick and Andy's room but I went back to my own room to unpack, as even though it was going to be a pain, it had to be done. I changed out of my jeans and hoodie into a black t shirt and some plaid pyjama bottoms and started to unpack my clothes and school stuff.
As I was kneeled on the floor putting my clothes in the bottom drawers of my wardrobe, Will came in. The wardrobes were on either side of the entrance hallway to the room after the door to the bathroom on the right which meant I was in Will's way.
"Sorry man I'll move." I said while half crawling to the side to let him through. He weakly smiled in return and shuffled past me to get to the shelf beside his desk. I watched him as he looked through his small collection of books with his back turned to me. When he turned back around I quickly went back to what I was doing and he flopped onto the bed and began reading. That was my chance to talk to him."What're you reading?" I asked while turning to look at him. He looked up confused but flipped the book around to show me the cover.
"The shining. It's Stephen King." Will replied. I actually knew that one. This was great.
"Oh, that's cool. I watched the movie I really liked it."
"Yeah I liked it too, the acting was good."
Shit. Somehow I had completely forgotten how to make conversation because I really didn't know what to say to him next.
"Mhm." Mhm? Why the fuck would I say that. I was supposed to be befriending the guy and now I just sounded uninterested in the conversation I literally started. Who does that? I had to fix this."Sorry for being annoying earlier, I was acting like a total self pitying idiot because my parents just shipped me off here to not have to deal with me." I blurted. I hoped that would break the ice because I didn't want things to stay this awkward.
"I mean, I didn't say it." he said while smirking. Finally I was making some progress.
"You didn't have to." I replied, smiling back at him. "But thank you. I was being pretty pissy as well to be honest, not a very warm welcome." He smiled back at me."Can we just start over?" I asked, now with my body fully turned to face him as I sat cross legged on the floor.
"Yeah, I'd like that." He replied, and we smiled at each other again. He didn't seem as bad as what Troy had said to me, he must be the bullshitter I thought he was.———————
