The hotel lobby in Jaipur was a blend of opulence and chaos, a stark contrast to the serene landscapes of Malawi. As I checked in, the exhaustion from my journey weighed heavily on me, but the excitement of being in a new country kept my spirits high. The concierge handed me my room key with a warm smile, and I made my way to the elevator, my suitcase trailing behind me.

Once in my room, I collapsed onto the plush bed, letting out a sigh of relief. Despite my fatigue, I knew I had to call my family. I dialed my mother’s number, and she picked up almost immediately.

“Amina! How is India?” Her voice was filled with warmth and curiosity.

“It’s incredible, Ma. The colors, the people, everything is so vibrant. I can’t wait to explore more tomorrow,” I replied, my excitement palpable even through the phone.

“Make sure to stay safe and enjoy every moment,” she advised. “And don’t forget to call your brother. He’ll want to hear all about your adventures.”

“I will, Ma. I have a whole list of places I want to visit,” I said, pulling out my notebook. “There’s the Amber Fort, the City Palace, and the markets. I want to see everything.”

Her laughter was a comforting sound. “You always were the adventurous one. Just be careful and have fun.”

After the call, I sat down to finalize my bucket list. Each entry filled me with anticipation. The thrill of exploring a new city, the promise of new experiences—it was all so exhilarating. Feeling a sense of accomplishment, I finally allowed myself to relax and drift off to sleep.

Chapter 5: A New Day

The next morning, I woke up refreshed and ready to start my adventure. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the room in a warm glow. I could hardly contain my excitement as I pulled on my clothes and made sure to pack my camera, ready to capture every moment.

Just as I was about to head out, my phone rang. It was my best friend from Malawi, and her cheerful voice instantly lifted my spirits.

“Hey, Amina! How’s India treating you?” she asked, her excitement infectious.

“It’s amazing! I wish you were here with me,” I replied, a hint of sadness creeping in.

“I’m so sorry I couldn’t come. I had to deal with this urgent thing at home,” she apologized. “But I know you’ll have an amazing time. Just promise to take lots of pictures and tell me everything.”

“I will, don’t worry. I’m just about to head out and start exploring,” I said, feeling a renewed sense of excitement.

As I stepped out of the hotel, the warm air enveloped me, carrying the scent of spices and street food. My senses were alive with the sounds and colors of the bustling city. I felt a thrill rush through me as I took my first steps into Jaipur. Every corner seemed to hold a story, every face a different experience waiting to unfold.

I hadn’t walked far when I was approached by a man who introduced himself as my tour guide.

“Hello, Ms. Amina. I’m Ayush, and I’ll be showing you around Jaipur,” he said, his voice smooth and inviting.

I felt my breath catch in my throat. He was undeniably handsome, with sharp cheekbones and deep, expressive eyes that seemed to hold secrets of their own. His dark hair was perfectly tousled, adding to his effortless charm. There was a captivating intensity in his gaze that made me feel both excited and nervous. Tour guides didn’t usually look like him—this was someone who could easily belong in a magazine, not behind a desk with a clipboard.
