I step into the back seat of the car, still trying to wrap my head around how a tour guide could be this good-looking. Ayush, my so-called tour guide, slides into the front seat, taking the driver’s position. His confidence is almost unnerving, radiating an aura that feels both inviting and intimidating.
“Do you have any plans for today, Miss?” he asks, glancing at me through the rearview mirror, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
I raise an eyebrow, a playful smirk on my lips. “Yeah, I have a list of places we need to visit. Let’s start with the City Palace.”
“City Palace it is,” he replies, his voice steady and warm, as he pulls into the bustling streets of Udaipur.
As we drive through the vibrant chaos, I can’t help but feel a mix of curiosity and skepticism. How did a tour guide end up looking like he walked out of a fashion magazine? And why does he seem so familiar with the city, almost like he owns it? The way he navigates the streets effortlessly only adds to the intrigue, and I find myself leaning forward, my interest piqued.
When we arrive at the City Palace, he opens the door for me, a chivalrous gesture that catches me off guard. “After you, Miss,” he says, and the way he says it—casual yet charged—sends a jolt of unexpected excitement through me.
I step out, taking in the grandeur of the palace. “It’s beautiful,” I admit, my voice softening as I gaze at the intricate architecture.
Ayush’s smile broadens, genuine warmth radiating from him. “It is. Shall we?”
As we wander through the palace, he points out historical details and shares stories, his passion for the city evident in every word. Despite my initial reservations, I find myself captivated—not just by the history, but by him. He’s knowledgeable and charming, effortlessly drawing me into his world. There’s an energy between us that feels electric, and with every shared laugh, the tension simmers just beneath the surface.
Our next stop is Jag Mandir, a stunning island palace on Lake Pichola. As we board the boat, Ayush leans closer, his voice low and teasing. “Is this your first time traveling, Amina?”
I shake my head, a hint of pride in my voice. “No, I’ve traveled to about twenty countries so far. After this, I’ll head back home and continue my journey.”
He raises an eyebrow, clearly impressed. “That’s quite a list. Any favorites?”
“Each place has its own charm,” I reply, our eyes locking for a moment. “But India is definitely unique.”
The way he studies me sends a rush of warmth through my veins. It feels like we’re sharing more than just words—like we’re revealing pieces of ourselves in the process.
We spend the day exploring Udaipur, visiting Saheliyon Ki Bari, the Monsoon Palace, and the bustling markets. At each stop, we share moments of laughter, curiosity, and even a few playful arguments, each one charged with an intensity that hangs in the air.
At one point, Ayush tries to take charge. “I think we should head to the Jagdish Temple next,” he suggests, his tone authoritative but light.
I cross my arms, a teasing smile on my lips. “Remember, I’m the boss here. We go where I say.”
He chuckles, shaking his head, the sound deep and rich. “Alright, boss. Lead the way.” But there’s a glint in his eye that challenges me, as if he’s daring me to push my luck.
As we continue our adventure, we stumble into a local boutique to try on traditional Rajasthani outfits. I slip into a vibrant lehenga, the fabric flowing around me like a burst of color, while Ayush dons a kurta, the deep hue accentuating his features.
When I catch a glimpse of him in the mirror, I can’t help but laugh. “You look… different,” I say, trying to stifle my giggles, my heart racing at how handsome he looks.
He grins, adjusting his kurta. “So do you. But in a good way.”
Our reflections stare back at us, and in this moment, something shifts. The air grows thick with tension, an unspoken connection crackling between us. It’s in the way he watches me, his gaze lingering a moment too long, and the playful banter that dances on the edge of something deeper.
