Flashback continues:

As both of them sat side by side. Devika got immersed in her memories and was preparing herself to narrate each detail she could remember

" I lived in Jaisalmer. The golden city." Devika smiled remembering her hometown

She continued " my family occasionally had dinner parties and it was one of the days we were having our dinner at our house's backyard."

"I won't say my family was so loving or that we were a perfect family but we were well known in the city. My father was the best jeweler in the city. He had a reputation just like other elders which were my grandfather, my uncles."

" So we all usually had dinners like this to spend some quality time. Mostly it was because our parents were highly social. Being famous among the residents of the city they liked the attention and social hype. So they would show off every chance they get"

" That night wh...when we were having dinner I got tired of sitting there idly. I wanted some alone time so I..I went back to my room." She took in a real breath, playing with the sleeves of her shirt

"I heard faint noises from the backyard but I didn't pay any heed knowing that my family was just having some fun or my cousin's would be making videos or playing loud songs"

"B..but suddenly I heard a gunshot. It was s..so loud that my ears burned" her lips trembled as she touched her ears. Tears of pain escaping her eyes.

Saanvi quickly sat closer to her "it's okay please don't say anything if you don't feel good par roiye mat." She cried with her (but don't cry)

Devika was engaged in recounting bits of her memory while her tears were flowing non stop. " I got scared thinking about my mother ,my father and my sisters. I ran outside..." she slowly met Saanvi's gaze "I saw blood.. everywhere ...it was all blood... my family...they....they.... dead"

"Take deep breaths. Please calm down. It's all over now. That day is over" Saanvi whispered. Although she was creating a vision of the whole scenario in her mind, she needed to offer Devika mental and physical support by trying her best to calm her down.

Her own mind was fogged with Devika's tears and her heart clenched looking at her losing herself in the memories of her past.

Devika shook her head repeatedly , persistent in sharing her tale. She took a deep breath while Saanvi wiped the tears off her cheeks

"I came downstairs. I saw people entering. They all were wearing black clothes. Our house was raided. M-my family was already laying lifelessly by the time I reached."

She then described the scene "the table was upside down, food scattered on the floor.... My little cousins were weeping badly... their parents were lying in their own blood... those people ...they mercilessly killed my family"

" I was hiding,Saanvi. It all scared me. The gunshots ,the knives thrown at my family was s..so terrifying." she looked at saanvi with a gaze telling her with her tear filled eyes that she could have done something

She looked down crying more "I should have moved....I should have thrown myself into the pool of blood, but I stood there, horrified and shocked. If only I had been brave enough to go there and let myself be killed by these monsters, I might not have suffered this cruelty... Maybe I would be living with my family in the hereafter.... Maybe I would have been saved from this persecution"Words spilled out like tears, each one a release from the burden she had carried.

"Someone threw a sharp blade aimlessly and it hit me on my arm. It had a drug on it...so... so I fainted with my family's screaming, their crying, their whimpers echoing in my ears....the next time I gained my consciousness, I found myself in that room with a note
