"Clove Carrow." I look around as my name is called. I see Cato staring at me. I look away, and walk up to the stage.
"I volunteer!" Cato yells. I look at him, horror filling up in my body. I had said not that long ago that I didn't like him in that way. Meaning, I didn't love him. He had looked devastated, but I had been lying, I do love him, just I'm scared that he will hate me after that. That's why, at the moment, I'm close to tears. I don't want him to volunteer, to go into the Games, to be killed. I want him to live.
"Alright." Kitty says. We shake hands and walk to the Justice Building.
"Clove!" my little three year old sister screams when she walks in.
"Violet, it's okay." I whisper to her ear. I look around. My parents weren't there. "Where are Mom and Dad?" I ask Violet.
"They are too sad to come." she whispers. I look down at her and run my fingers through her silky brown hair. She looks up at me, her blue eyes as big as platters.
"Time's up." a peacekeeper says.
On the way to the train, Cato doesn't say a thing to me. I want to speak up, but I'm nervous.
Half way to the train, Violet ran up and threw her arms around me, sobbing.
"Violet, what are you..." I say to her turning around. I stop mid sentence, and stare across the street. My house was visible, and in flames.
"MOM! DAD!" I scream. I let go if Violet and start to run. I feel arms wrap around my waist, holding me back. "Let go!" I yell struggling against the person. I stare at my house, and scream. Violet was being pulled away by a peacekeeper. "Violet!" I scream.
"Clove!" she cries. I'm dragged away by someone much stronger than me. I look up one more time and scream.
"NO!"
