-FLASHBACK-

First Encounter

Blood's stench filled the air.

Coppery, like the mines.

It was sweet in a horrible, twisted, horrific way.

The smell wafted through every open window, seeped through every wall, bled through each floorboard.

Bled onto a young girl, staining her hair red, making it cling to the sides of her face.

She was so scared. Frozen. Horrified.

She was glad she had hidden just in time. Hidden away from the shadow. Whatever that thing was.

Her breaths were choppy, uneven.

Her gaze wasn't focused, yet her eyes were wild, glancing around at every shadow.

Had it seen her?

Could it smell her?

Would it find her?

The girl tried to still her heartbeat, that pounded like a drum.

Could it hear her?

Would it suspect she was there?

She clung onto her last strands of humanity, the only thing tying her to the real world.

She kept trying to calm herself, but the seemingly eternal bleeding loomed over her head.

Was it watching her?

Did it know what she'd done?

What she was doing?

What sin had she committed to deserve this...?

She did everything right.

Yet, her heart was full of fear, pounding, marching her to her likely death, as the blood continued to seep into her.

Into her bones.

She knew it was looking here.

Did it see her?

Did it see her?

She couldn't handle the suspense. Her anxiety burned her from the inside, forcing her to take a small breath of air.

The dripping stopped.

Five sleek smoky black tendrils appeared under the board, as it gingerly lifted it up.

God.

God, where was its eyes.

It had teeth.

So.

Many.

Teeth.

They clicked together as the beast rumbled, leaning closer.

It knew something was here.

Then, a noise sounded from across the room.

The monster's focus snapped left to the noise, its sickening slithering noise following close behind it.

The girl was too scared to speak.

To move.

Her limbs told her to flee. To run. To scream for her mother.

But she held, ever so agonizingly still.

How long had she sat here, in the blood.

Minutes?

Hours?

Days?

Time seemed to stop.

Her appetite didn't exist anymore.

Was it always this cold?

No.

No?

The blood's stench was nonexistentent.

She couldn't move.

Get it off.

Get the blood off,

she wanted to scream.

But her tounge had shriveled.

Her voice dried up.

Her throat ragged like sandpaper.

She made no noise as tears fell from her eyes.

One.

Two.

Three.

Mom told her to count when she was scared.

Four.

Five.

Six.

Someone would find her eventually, right?

Seven. Eight. Nine.

She began to slow her breathing.

Ten.

She opened her eyes.

Ten, eleven.

She had to get out of here.

Twelve, thirteen.

Four-

Footsteps.

The girl froze.

Gentle hands lifted the board. White ones.

White ones that glowed.

Like an angel.

A demon stared down at her, concern laced in its movements.

She wasn't scared.

No, she was.

She hates demons, but this one was white.

It was green, too.

This one was smiling. Smiling nicely.

Friendly.

With no teeth.

He gently lifted the girl before tossing her over his shoulder.

Dream couldn't help but wonder what the poor kid had seen.

Short chapter sorry sorry
