Just to Be Good Enough (Part 1)

Hey guys this next part goes off of the story. My apologies if its not too accurate. I had to split this story into three parts because it was so long. Enjoy :)

The Port Mafia and the Agency joined forces against the Guild, and Akutagawa has been especially moody about this arrangement. Your room in the mafia's base was next to his and you faintly hear the sound of the opening and closing of a door. You jump from your seat at your desk and throw open the door. You catch Akutagawa trying to sneak out. When he heard you he froze looking guilty.

"Where are you going?" You question.

He sighs. "Well if you must know I'm going to fight the were tiger."

He always has a habit of going rogue. The boss only lets him because he gets results.

"Fine then. I'm going with you."

You grab your gun out of the closet, close the door, and start walking toward him and the exit.

"No . I don't want you getting involved. Especially not with the boss."

He grabs your arm. You yank your arm out of his grasp.

"You need backup." You exclaim.

"Y/n please, be reasonable." He pleads.

"Too bad." You say sticking your tongue out at him.

Akutagawa sighs in aspiration.

"Fine, but don't get in my way."

You and him walk down the narrow hallway side by side. You had become close to Akutagawa over the few years you worked for the Port Mafia. He wanted company and someone to do his paperwork and you wanted a friend. He was cold to you at first but now you have been seeing sides of him he doesn't show very often. Eventually he saw you as a friend and you two have been almost inseparable.

Sneaking onto the Moby Dick wasn't hard. In fact it was eerily quiet aboard. Is it abandoned? you wonder. you look over at Akutagawa he had the same confused look on his face. Wandering around the enormous ship's corridors, Akutagawa spots Atsushi and immediately lunges at him. "Rashomon!"

The were tiger jumps out of the way just in time to avoid the damage. He looks surprised to see you but his shock wears off quickly and runs at Akutagawa with incredible speed.

"AKUTAGAWA!" Atsushi yells.

"It seems as though you've improved your acrobatic skills, were tiger." Akutagawa states.

"What are you doing here, Akutagawa." Atsushi asks.

"I've come here to kill you." Akutagawa states blankly.

"Don't you understand the situation we're in? We might not have a home to come back to."

The were tiger says trying to persuade Akutagawa to stop his attack.

"No matter how hard I try I can't figure you out."

"I don't recall asking you to." Akutagawa throws back.

You knew better than to get in the way. Ever since Akutagawa failed to capture the were tiger the last two times he was frustrated. You watch as the two verbally and physically battle it out for a few minutes when suddenly the were tiger holds up an ear piece.

"Dazai has been listening in. He wants to talk to you."

Akutagawa's eyes widen and out of nowhere throws the air piece over the railing.

"What have you done?!?" Akutagawa yells, lunging for the piece. He grabs it mid air and uses his special ability to grab the wall to stop his fall.

"Are you there??" he askes desperately.

The sound of the call ending echoes in the silent ship.

During all the commotion the were tiger disappeared. You help Akutagawa over the railing. he had an empty look on his face and you could tell his was lost in thought. He hung his head no doubt thinking that the were tiger got away from him again. Without thinking you walk over to where he was standing and wrap your arms around him. He raises his head in shock and you were certain he would push you away. To your surprise he leans into your touch and hugs you back. His body was shaking slightly. Probably from the fight and the jump.

"I hate him" he mumbles into your neck.

"Who? The were tiger or Dazai?" You ask.

"both." He breaks away and starts walking towards the direction Atsushi ran off.

"I'm going to kick his ass." he calls over his shoulder.

You follow Akutagawa up a flight of stairs. While climbing you think to to yourself about what had just happened. He let himself be vulnerable to you. Does that mean he trusts you? It was it just because of what happened. Your thinking gets cut short. When you see the were tiger fly out of a doorway and the leader of the guild following behind him. Francis Fitzgerald.

He steps on Atsushi and he lets out a cry of pain. Akutagawa slowly walks toward the two and Francis.

"Well, looks like we have a surprise guest. You would be Akuwa? No. Octagon? Odacon?" Francis guesses.

"It's Akutagawa." He says annoyed.

"That's it." Francis confirms. "Apologies Mr. Akutagawa but I'm a bit tied up at the moment. I see you brought a friend. Who is this lovely lady behind you."

"Y/n." you state curtly.

You watch as Akutagawa completely ignores Francis and kicks the were tiger. He lets out a pained groan and flops onto his side.

Akutagawa sternly says. "Who gave you permission to lie around. You aren't getting away from me this time. Stand up and fight.

He pauses as Atsushi looks at him.

"You told me early that you couldn't figure me out, but from where I'm standing you're the one whose completely incomprehensible."

He kicked the were tiger again.

"Those fearful eyes of yours. You clearly have no faith in your own ability. If you still involve yourself in futile battles. Where does your misguided sense of morality come from?"
