Chapter 8: "Do You Believe I'll Bite You?"

Ji Chenxi didn't initially know where the leopard was taking him until he caught a faint whiff of something distinctly associated with tequila.

"Chi Zhuo?"

Ji Chenxi's brow furrowed slightly. Chi Zhuo wouldn't easily release his pheromones, so could this be due to injury? Was his blood leaking his pheromone scent?

After a moment of contemplation, Ji Chenxi figured that when he descended from a great height, he could use the keen senses of his snow leopard spirit form to minimize injury. As for Chi Zhuo, well... a giant snake falling from the sky, with its delicate bones and organs, would surely result in ruptured organs and mangled flesh.

What a tragedy, truly.

Ji Chenxi's hand, which was about to signal his snow leopard to leave, paused mid-motion. His fingers gently stroked the snow leopard's head, allowing it to continue approaching the dangerous presence.

Amidst the snow leopard's lazy yet graceful advance, Ji Chenxi's sharp vision had already spotted the figure.

A tall, black-haired man lay amidst the dense tree canopy, supported firmly by the thick branches of an ancient tree. A seven-meter-long black mamba snake, with its rare black scales, coiled around the massive tree. The snake, slender yet menacing, hissed aggressively, trying to intimidate its foes. In stark contrast, a small snake, coiled around the man's leg and attempting to frighten him, seemed almost cute by comparison.

The man, who had previously exuded a cold and dangerous aura in front of Ji Chenxi, now lay unconscious, eyes tightly shut.

The towering ancient tree, the unbelievably handsome man, and the terrifying giant snake, all bathed in sunlight filtering through the leaves, created a golden glow over their bodies.

The fusion of sinister evil and sunlight was so perfectly balanced.

Ji Chenxi, who had a certain interest in painting, was momentarily tempted to capture the scene.

Lowering his gaze, Ji Chenxi shifted his eyes away from the man.

In truth, even he wasn't sure whether Chi Zhuo's current state was good or bad. Based on his earlier guesses, he thought that Chi Zhuo might have been impaled by sharp branches, or at the very least, suffered broken bones and internal injuries.

Regardless of which scenario, he hadn't expected Chi Zhuo to merely be unconscious, with no signs of injury. So, where was the pheromone scent coming from? It couldn't possibly be... an estrus period?

Unsure, Ji Chenxi dismounted from the snow leopard. At this point, his previously sprained ankle had become swollen and red, and when he touched the ground, the sharp pain was hard to ignore.

Ji Chenxi, who had factored in everything except the need for healing ointment, frowned and endured the discomfort.

He patted the snow leopard, signaling it to climb the tree and check things out.

For the snow leopard, whose agile body was accustomed to moving across rocky cliffs, climbing a tree wasn't much of a challenge. In a few swift leaps, the large gray-and-white cat reached the ancient tree. Before it could approach Chi Zhuo, the black mamba extended its coffin-shaped head, trying to scare off the snow leopard. Ji Chenxi worried that the snake's hissing might frighten his snow leopard, so he was about to climb up to check on Chi Zhuo himself.

However, before he could act, Ji Chenxi watched as his snow leopard gently pressed a paw on the black mamba's head and then licked it with its tongue.

The once aggressive black mamba seemed completely bewildered by the cat's lick, freezing in place with no further reaction.
