Chapter 55: I Want Him

Chi Zhuo did not respond to Lan Mu's words. Feeling the information captured by his mental power, he slowly said, "Eight people: three S-ranks, three A-ranks, and..."

"Two B-ranks," Lan Mu interjected, smiling with a meaningful expression. "An S-rank actually came along with B-ranks; they really are just kids. Let's give these kids a lesson first."

The lesson Lan Mu referred to was certainly not simple. As he spoke, Chi Zhuo already felt the completely silent blue spiders beginning to stir, with the mother spider crawling up Lan Mu's hand.

Chi Zhuo's eyes darkened, but he ultimately did not intervene.

If Ji Chenxi had come alone, even at the risk of Lan Mu noticing something, he wouldn't have let Lan Mu act. For Ji Chenxi, he wanted to be personally involved in whatever happened, but unfortunately, Ji Chenxi was here with a group.

Chi Zhuo felt a strange mix of emotions; he thought it was good that Ji Chenxi could come with friends to avoid boredom, but he also felt an inexplicable irritation.

Upon entering the underground maze, Ji Chenxi sensed just how impressive the remodelled maze was.

What first caught their attention was blood—lots of it—staining the ground not far in front of them red.

In this school's entrance trials, mutual killing to the point of death was not allowed. Whenever a newcomer was injured severely or chose to give up, a medical team would quickly come to assist. Clearly, if this were not a trial, what lay before them would not be bloodstained soil but rather the bodies of the deceased.

No one in Ji Chenxi's group explicitly said they wanted to leave, but from the shocked gasps at the sight of the blood and their current expressions, it was clear some were already considering retreating.

Lu Jianhan frowned, about to take the lead himself, when Ji Chenxi grabbed him with one hand.

"Don't rush. Want to guess why there's so much blood here? Didn't you tell me this underground maze is occupied by poisonous snakes and blue spiders?"

Lu Jianhan's expression tightened. "Are you saying it's the spider silk? But how could spider silk do this?"

Hearing this, the group strained their eyes to try and see any signs of silk, but none could be found—not even Lu Jianhan and Bai Anran, the two S-ranks.

Ji Chenxi said nothing. He picked up a stone from the ground and casually tossed it forward. With just a flick of his wrist, he hadn't expected to hit any silk, but the small stone was cut into four pieces.

"So sharp?" one of the alphas exclaimed.

If the silk was that sharp, those who had gone in ahead would surely have been cut in half.

Ji Chenxi lowered his gaze, tempted to reach out. Just as he was about to extend his hand, Bai Anran quickly called out, "Your Highness."

After Ji Chenxi withdrew his hand, Bai Anran breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that the Third Prince's fingers would be sliced by the unknown silk.

Ji Chenxi merely wanted to touch it, partly to sense if it was poisonous. Now that he had been called back, he opted not to take the risk. He pulled out his dagger, twirling it twice in his hand before throwing it like a boomerang.

The dagger, capable of slicing through steel, returned to Ji Chenxi's hand almost instantly, barely slowed down.

Calculating the angles, Ji Chenxi threw the dagger two more times before boldly taking two steps forward.

The cave was extremely quiet; even the sound of breathing was magnified. After just two steps, Ji Chenxi stopped and splashed a bit of water from his bottle onto the ground. The droplets slid down the silk, and those who had not seen the silk finally caught sight of the substance that had blocked nearly all of them.

Ji Chenxi was certain that he hadn't left any silk behind, nor any minor disturbances.

The spiders were still spinning their silk.

They had already walked into the spiders' trap.

Ji Chenxi spread his mental power more finely, and upon detecting a dozen tiny, nearly imperceptible objects, he wasted no time in using a mental attack to pierce through them.

Meanwhile, Lan Mu, who was waiting for the small spiders to act, sat up slightly, his previously relaxed demeanor tightening. "Looks like it's not bad; they passed the first stage so quickly."

"Passing the first stage isn't that hard."

"Can't say that. My spider silk is not only tough but also extremely stealthy; it's an excellent tool for killing invisibly. In this new student trial, killing isn't allowed, or else I could easily take quite a few lives by just making it a bit more concealed. Passing the first stage is one thing, but finding and eliminating my little creatures this quickly is rare even outside."

Chi Zhuo ignored him. Since Lan Mu was playing with him, he was already someone who could endure solitude. With Chi Zhuo not engaging, Lan Mu began talking to himself, "Seems like that beautiful snow leopard; ha, I'm a bit excited."

"I want him," Chi Zhuo said coldly.

Lan Mu looked at Chi Zhuo in surprise, his gaze full of unspoken complexities, but he merely replied, "Sure, just let me play with the other two S-ranks."
