The soft hum of the hospital created a cocoon of peace around Rahul and Athiya, the new parents basking in the glow of their newborn son. Rahul’s gaze was fixed on his tiny baby, the delicate rise and fall of his chest as he slept, the little fingers curling into the blanket. Athiya, resting beside him, smiled as she watched her husband’s eyes light up with a love so pure it was almost tangible.
Then, the quiet was interrupted by the sound of the door swinging open, and in walked Virat—Rahul’s elder brother in everything but blood. His face broke into an enormous grin the moment he saw them. "Rahuliya!" Vi called out, his voice ringing with excitement.
Rahul looked up, expecting Vi to come over and wrap him in a tight brotherly hug. But to his surprise, Vi’s attention wasn’t on him at all. Without a word, Virat made a straight line for the baby, his eyes wide with joy as he knelt beside the hospital bed.
"Oh, look at him!" Vi gasped, as if he were seeing the most precious thing in the world. He didn’t wait for Rahul or Athiya’s permission, carefully scooping up the baby into his arms. His expression softened as he gazed down at the tiny face peeking out from the blanket. "Mini Kiddoliya," he whispered, a grin spreading across his face. "Just like his dad, but already more handsome!"
Rahul blinked, his smile faltering for a moment. His arms, which had been extended, ready for the expected brotherly embrace, slowly lowered to his sides. Vi didn’t even look his way—his entire focus was on the baby. Rahul could feel a knot forming in his chest, a strange mixture of pride and frustration stirring within him. His lips tightened as he watched Virat gently rock his son, completely enraptured.
"Look at you, mini Rahuliya," Vi continued, his voice filled with warmth as he marveled at the baby in his arms. "You’ve already got that Kiddoliya charm, haven’t you? Just wait till you grow up—this world won’t know what hit it."
Rahul’s brow furrowed deeper as he sat back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest. His eyes darted from Vi to the baby and back again, that pang of jealousy quietly growing. It wasn’t that he begrudged his son the attention—of course not. But where was his moment? He’d been expecting Vi’s usual over-the-top excitement for him, a big hug, maybe even a few teasing words. But instead, his son seemed to have stolen all of it.
Vi’s grin widened as he pressed a soft kiss to the baby’s forehead, his voice dropping to a gentle whisper. "You’re going to be just like your papa. Except maybe a bit cooler, huh? Mini Kiddoliya’s got all the swagger."
That did it. Rahul’s frown deepened, and he couldn’t hold back the grumble that escaped his lips. “Yeah, well, I’m still here too, you know,” he muttered, his jealousy bubbling over. It wasn’t like he wanted to compete with his own son for attention, but a part of him couldn’t help feeling a bit... displaced.
Vi finally looked up, blinking in surprise as if only just noticing the look on Rahul’s face. His expression flickered from confusion to amusement in a heartbeat, and a wide grin spread across his face.
"Oh my God," Vi laughed, shaking his head as he gently handed the baby back to Athiya. "Are you seriously jealous of your own son, Rahuliya?"
Rahul opened his mouth to protest, but his face flushed as Vi’s words hit home. “I’m not... I mean...” He stumbled over his words, shifting awkwardly in his seat. “It’s just—”
Vi burst out laughing, moving over to sit beside Rahul on the chair. He draped an arm around Rahul’s shoulders, pulling him into a half-hug. "Rahuliya," he teased, his voice filled with affection, "you’re jealous. Of your own son! That’s adorable."
Rahul tried to huff, but his lips betrayed him as a small smile tugged at the corners. "I’m not jealous," he muttered, though even he didn’t sound convinced. "It’s just... you didn’t even say hi to me."
Vi’s laughter softened, and he turned to look at Rahul more seriously. "Hey, you know I’m always here for you. You’re my brother, Rah. But look at him," he said, gesturing to the baby in Athiya’s arms. "How could I not be smitten with this little guy? He’s basically a mini-you."
Rahul glanced over at his son, who was now snug in Athiya’s arms, his little face scrunched up as he yawned. Slowly, the jealousy in Rahul’s chest started to fade, replaced by a growing warmth and pride. He couldn’t help but smile.
"I guess he is pretty cute," Rahul admitted, still trying to sound annoyed, though the affection in his voice betrayed him.
Vi chuckled and squeezed Rahul’s shoulder. "Yeah, well, don’t worry, Rahuliya. You’ll always be my favorite Kiddoliya," he teased with a wink. "But now you’ve got to share the spotlight a bit."
Rahul rolled his eyes but couldn’t help laughing. “Fine, fine. Just don’t steal my kid from me next time,” he said, his voice lighter now.
Vi grinned mischievously, leaning back in his chair. "No promises, Rah. I think mini Rahuliya and I are going to be best buddies."
Rahul narrowed his eyes, his lips pressing into a pout as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Excuse me?" he said, voice laced with mock indignation. "No, no, no, Vi. I’m your favorite and your best buddy. This little guy," Rahul nodded towards his son, "might have your heart for now, but don’t forget who’s been there from the start!"
Vi’s grin widened, clearly amused by Rahul’s possessiveness. "Oh, come on, Rah," he teased, leaning in closer, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "You know there’s enough of me to go around. Plus, mini Rahuliya’s got the same charm. You two can share the title."
Rahul wasn’t having it. "Nope. No sharing," he sulked, his voice playfully dramatic. "I’ve put in years of friendship, Vi. He’s just a baby! You can’t steal my thunder like that. Only I can be your favorite."
Vi chuckled and nudged Rahul’s shoulder. "Rahuliya, you’re jealous and possessive of your own son? I never thought I’d see the day!"
Rahul’s pout deepened, but there was a twinkle in his eye. "Well, what can I say? I’ve got a reputation to protect. Mini Kiddoliya can have everyone else, but you’re my best friend. No one gets to take that spot." He shifted closer to Vi, his playful jealousy making him cling tighter to the bond they shared.
Vi laughed softly, shaking his head. "Alright, alright, fine. You’ll always be my number one Kiddoliya," he said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "But mini Rahuliya here—" he shot a glance toward the baby, "—he’s going to be my partner-in-crime when he grows up, you know."
Rahul finally cracked a smile, his possessiveness melting away as Vi reassured him. "Yeah, well, he’s got big shoes to fill," Rahul quipped, leaning back with a satisfied smirk. "But don’t get too comfortable. You’re still stuck with me as your favorite, Vi."
Vi slung an arm around Rahul’s shoulders, pulling him close. "Wouldn’t have it any other way, Rahuliya."
How is it??? This is something I thought since night and write it down I don't know if it's good or not.
