Chapter 16: Reverse effect

Axton's POV

I watched as Lora walked towards me, her facial expression dead cold and her skin paler than cotton candy clouds. I pointed my gun towards her, watching as she drew her magick.

"Lora...look I'm sorry-"

She immediately drew her hand and shot green veins towards me, hitting my arm. Clearly, she wasn't in the mood to talk. I pulled out my bat, hoping not to hurt her too much with it, worst-case scenario, being able to knock her down before she killed me. She was swift, much more force was used and I barely kept up, I managed to get a few hits on her, and even with her bleeding arm, she continued to hunt me like a serious predator. I couldn't keep up for long, when suddenly I felt magick lift me up and throw me under one of the tables, out of Lora's sight. 

"shush...don't move, I've taught her too well, she can hear, smell and see everything that moves."

I looked at Zyx beside me, holding his injured leg. He then faced me and communicated in sign language.

"What did you do to my daughter?!"

I gasped in anger at him, signing aggressively at him.

"Why do you always assume it's me who hurts her?!"

" because why else is she wanting to kill you in particular?!"

"I- I don't know" I accidentally spoke, my heart ripping into two again as I'm reminded of last night.

Zyx noticed this and placed his hot hand on my forehead, draining the memories out of me and onto the wall, catching Lora and everyone else's attention. As the projection played I felt eyes shift from me to Lora, her once-dead expression growing weaker and so was her power. King Zo couldn't stand this, he tried to run towards me, chanting a spell to turn me into dust. 

"ZYX NO!"

The room filled with silence and horror as they watched Lennox fall.  Loaf Looked over at the bused open door and saw Moojin and Meercow kneeling down, running to them. 

Everything in the room started to lift, magickal purple dust filling the room, choking us all. I looked over at Zyx, his tears of purple dust falling faster than a raging river, his body glowed with the purple as his body lifted off the ground. His father chuckled through the smoke.

"Yes...YES MY SON, DESTROY EVERYTHING, TURN EVERYTHING TO DUST!"

Everyone gathered near each other, laying on their stomachs to be able to breathe, but slowly everything in the room glowed purple, slowly dissolving. Everyone got up and panicked, some turning to dust instantly. Loaf and moojin desperately tried to pry the door open with their bodies, but Meercow managed to shoot the lock, making the door fly open. Everyone else remaining ran for the exit, except for Lora, who stood near Lennox and Zyx, slowly dissolving with them. Loaf grapped me and dragged me out of the building, i slashed their face and pushed them away.

"I'm NOT LEAVING THEM IN THERE, I WON'T LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO LORA!...never again!" 

Loaf watched in confusion but fear as they watched me run up the building stairs that quickly dissolved below me, dodging falling ceiling lights and glass panels, and right into the purple lit room. Winds faster than a tornado as Lora, Lennox and Zyx stood in the middle.

"shit..shit, ok wait. if i jump onto the flying furniture, it will drag me closer to them...well...here we go!"

I jumped onto a chair, trying not to vomit as the winds propelled me towards them, jumping onto different tables and plants, reaching the middle, where the wind didn't throw me around. King Zo chuckled psychopathically as Lora watched Lennox dissolve slowly and Zyx turn into a purple blob of energy. I pulled out my bat, making eye contact with King Zo.

"EVEN IF YOU KILL ME, YOU WILL BE SHORTLY AFTER"

"then it's a wonderful way to die"

i circled around him, watching his arm placements and patterns. I look at Lora, sighing sadly as I prepare for the most dangerous mission ever.

I launch towards him, jumping over his deadly veins and sharp magick knives, the adrenaline drove me crazy happy, i chuckled like a mad hatter as i landed hits on him multiple times, cracking almost every bone in his upper torso, but before i could finish him, i felt a vein impale my lower abdomen and knocked me back towards the deadly purple dust. I caught a glimpse of Lora looking at me, her magick fading and her face becoming more alive.

"any last words you dirty rat?"

i smiled, holding my abdomen as i slowly got up.

"Finish me off, but just remember"

i spat out a paper with a sigil on it onto his chest. Lora completely snapped out of her state, falling to the ground.

"Underdogs will always be...so much fucking smarter than upperclassmen"

The loud sound of a sharp object going through his chest filled the room. i smiled as I watched his limp body fall to the ground. i saw as Maigick lifted him up, throwing him into the dust, his body dissolving in a fast flash of flames. I looked back and saw Lora, smiling slightly at me.

"paper sigil...so you did pay attention to me?"

"leant from my favourite dumbass in the world."

She stared at me with horror, noticing my blood dissolving into purple dust. i quickly ran to her and spat out another sigil. She looked down at it in shock, i was clear she didn't wanna use this one, but if we didn't, the world would disappear into nothing. 

"let's do this... I'll be your familiar."

she smiled widely and moved closer to me, kissing my lips ever so lightly and grabbing my receiving hand, disrupting the magick between the both of us.

"you've always been my familiar Axton..always will be"

I nearly shed a tear as I saw the matching bracelet on her wrist, showing she never left my side, i knew she didn't forgive me yet but to know she'd stuck by my side through it all

made me want to risk everything for her, for us

 I put the paper back into my mouth and Lora closed her eyes, drawing the sigil towards Zyx, the shared magick caused not only her to glow, but me too, the magick going through my cuts and into my bloodstream, allowing me to cast the sigil with Lora. We both cast it out, and I spat the paper out, flying towards and landing on Zyx, slowly the sigil absorbed the remaining magick surrounding Zyx like a vacuum instantly making the dust disappear, the air started to clear and Zyx's bright purple started to fade, lowering him to the ground.

Lora looked at me and nodded her head, i sighed anxiously and held her hand tightly, stepping back as i closed my eyes, letting the intention and magick go through me, i ran for Zyx, grabbing his receiving hand, causing the magick into invert, Lora grabbed Lennox and covered him with her body as i let go, causing all the magick to spread out in a massive blast and throwing back everything including Zyx and me into the snack table.

but I slowly..felt my body succumb to my injuries, making her laugh the last time I heard and the purple magick surrounding me being the last thing I saw.
