7:51 am
Well shit, I slept in a bit after overthinking about what Sunghoon said yesterday.
I was out of breath from running to make sure I got to school on time, and luck was on my side and no red lights stopped me.
The students in the hallways were being loud, much more energetic than a usual school morning. It was probably about the volleyball rally being held this Friday, a fun social event for the students once in a while. There were going to be only one to two classes that day, the rest of the time available for us to hold the volleyball rally.
I sat down in my usual seat, next to the peacefully sleeping Sunghoon. I stretched my tired legs out as I straightened my posture.
"You're late," Sunghoon said with his eyes still closed, laying down on his arms.
"I slept in more than I expected to," I replied, looking at the clock that read 07:54 am.
"Are you joining the volley rally?" he asked, now having his head up, looking at me.
"No, I don't even have a team to join anyways," I replied, waiting for the teacher to burst in at any moment.
"Can you play volleyball?" he asked again, making me turn my body to face him.
"I can, not to mention I was the volleyball captain back in middle school. Why?" I had a questionable look on my face, wondering why he was asking me about this.
"Great, we're short one person on our team, Riki and Sunoo don't wanna play," he said, stretching out his body as we were one minute away from the start of class. Riki would have been a great blocker because of his tall height.
There were groups of kids formed in class, discussing their teams for the volleyball rally. Where was the teacher?
"You want me to play-" I was cut off by the ringing of the announcement bell.
"Class 201, teacher is absent, please stay in school, do not cause commotion, but you are free to study or go to the gym."
Cheers and loud voices erupted in the class, enjoying the freedom they were granted for the next two hours or so. Sunghoon was leant back and relaxed, grinning at the good news.
"So, you in?" Sunghoon asked as he reached out his hand. Honestly, I don't know what I should expect from the guys since I've never seen them play volleyball before, and I haven't played in 3 years as well.
I stared at his hand for a few seconds before shaking it.
"I'm in, I haven't played in years though, so don't blame me if we lose," I warned, pointing my index finger at his face, making sure he understood that I'm not the best candidate he could have chosen.
He raised his hands in defeat, shaking his head as he faintly chuckled. He abruptly stood up, his chair falling in the process as I flinched at the loud noise, a few heads turning to see what had happened.
He dusted his pants as he grabbed his bag from the ground. Sunghoon walked towards the door of the classroom, ready to leave, but not before he turned around to face me.
"What are you doing? Come on," he flapped his hands, signaling me to follow him.
I grabbed my bag as I pushed both our chairs back in, quickly following after that long legged dude. Could he not have waited a few more seconds for me, bro this dude.
I caught up to his pace, walking next to him.
"You had to rush off like that?" I asked, panting as I struggled to keep up with him.
"Yup," he replied, earning a glare and a slap on the arm from me.
We walked into the gym, only one court being filled with people playing basketball during PE. The volleyball court was empty and a few balls were lined up on the rack.
I put down my bag as I walked over to the racks, picking up a volleyball before spinning it around in my hands. I dribbled it for a bit, getting used to the feeling of the volleyball.
"1 v 1?" Sunghoon suggested taking a volleyball for himself as he got used to the feeling as well.
"Well, I'm not gonna say I'll win for sure, but I was once the best player in middle school, from personal experiences, skills don't die off that easily," I said as I smirked at him, my voice filled with teasing.
"We'll see about that, princess," he said with equal teasing mixed in his voice, his eyes were, how should I put it, in sports mode? He had that look whenever he had a competition.
I placed the ball I was holding back onto the rack, Sunghoon already making his way to his side of the court. I walked over to my side, standing behind the white line in the back. I stretched my body before starting this competition. It wouldn't be so easy since he has the height to block me.
"Basic volleyball rules apply, except each of us get three touches each time," I suggested, adjusting the rules to match the situation of the game. He nodded as he agreed to my idea.
I suggested he start it off, waiting in the middle of my court, waiting for the serve to make it over. Sunghoon had great posture and power that was fit for volleyball, damn what sports was this man not good at?
The first few games were bad as I was trying to get used to the postures and techniques I had learnt before. Though after I got used to everything, the game went smoother. Rallies continued for longer than before, as I was trying my best not to lose.
Sunghoon noticed and started the actual game.
"Whoever gets to 15 first wins, the loser buys a meal, deal?" Sunghoon suggested, as I didn't miss a chance to win a free meal, the worst, I buy him a meal.
It was a competitive game, but the score?
