the house was quiet when jason, kylie, and the kids arrived. taylor had asked them to come over, and they knew it was important. kylie held wyatt and elliotte's hands as they walked to the door, trying to keep a brave face. jason knocked softly, and it wasn't long before taylor's mom let them in, her smile kind but strained.
they stepped inside, the air feeling heavy with everything unsaid. wyatt, held onto her "get well soon" card tightly, while elliotte, clutched hers with both hands. the girls had spent all morning coloring and drawing little hearts and rainbows, wanting to make taylor smile.
when they entered the living room, taylor was sitting on the couch, wrapped in a soft blanket. she looked up, her face pale but lighting up the second she saw them. "hey, you two," she said softly, her voice gentle but a bit weak. "what do you have there?"
wyatt and ellie walked over, their little faces serious as they handed her the cards. "we made these for you, aunt taylor," wyatt said, glancing back at her mom for reassurance. "we want you to get better soon."
taylor took the cards, her eyes watering as she looked at the scribbled words and colorful drawings. "these are beautiful," she said, smiling softly. she set the cards down and pulled both girls into a gentle hug. "thank you so much, wy and ellie. this means a lot to me."
kylie stood off to the side, watching the scene unfold. she bit her lip, trying to hold back tears. she had only known taylor for two years, but those years had been filled with so many memories, laughs, long talks, and the kind of friendship that felt like it had been there forever. seeing taylor like this, so fragile yet still so kind, broke something inside of her.
jason wrapped an arm around kylie's shoulders, sensing her struggle. "we're here for you, taylor," he said quietly, looking at her with a mix of sadness and strength. "anything you need."
taylor nodded, pulling back from the hug with wyatt and ellie. "i know," she whispered, her eyes lingering on the little girls who now looked up at her with such hope. "having you all here... it makes a difference."
they sat down together, the girls climbing onto the couch next to taylor, filling the room with a sense of warmth that hadn't been there before. kylie reached out, taking taylor's hand, squeezing it gently. "you've got this," she said, her voice steady despite the tears threatening to spill. "we're not going anywhere."
taylor squeezed her hand back, feeling the love and strength around her. for now, that was enough.
