Eunha sat down at a small corner table in the café, her fingers trembling slightly as she slid her new phone out of the box.
It still felt strange in her hands after getting it with her dad earlier. At least he had been nice enough to help her buy a new one. She was grateful for that, even if he had hurried off the moment they left the store. It gave her the perfect excuse to come here early.
Today was the day. She was finally going to meet him, Niki. She'd been excited about this all day, finally seeing him in person after so many chats online.
With a deep breath, she took the SIM card from her old phone and carefully put it into the new one. Her heart raced as the phone powered on, and she wasted no time opening the messaging app.
Her eyes scanned the list of messages, lots of them were unread. She quickly skimmed through her friends' messages, sending back short replies, but then she saw Niki's name pop up.
Her lips curved into a small smile as she opened his chat. She took a little extra time answering him, just enjoying the thought that she was about to meet him for real.
Once she replied, she clicked on the group chat with Niki and his friends. There were tons of messages, and at first, they didn't make much sense. She scrolled through them, confused about what they were talking about.
Then, one message stopped her cold.
"She's the one who spilled coffee on me."
It was Niki's message.
Eunha's hand froze mid-scroll as her eyes widened. Her mind raced back to that day at the café, the one where she had embarrassingly bumped into her crush, spilling her coffee all over him. Was he talking about... her?
She blinked at the screen, her thoughts spinning in circles.
Wait... Niki was the guy I spilled coffee on?
Her gaze darted to the top of the screen, checking the time. It was 18:01. She was supposed to meet Niki now.
Before she could process any further, the soft jingle of the café's doorbell echoed through the room, signaling the arrival of a new customer. Her head snapped up instinctively, and her breath hitched in her throat.
There, standing at the entrance, was the same guy she had bumped into at the café, the same guy she had embarrassed herself with.
Her crush.
Her heart pounded louder in her chest as the pieces began to click into place. It couldn't be. Was this really happening?
It was him.
Her crush, the guy she had spent weeks daydreaming about, was Niki.
Everything started making sense in that instant. The group messages, the vague references she hadn't understood before, even the coffee incident, the same university. It was all connected.
Eunha's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. She saw Niki's eyes widen in surprise, his face showing the same shock she felt. Her breath caught, and in that moment, everything froze. She could barely believe it, her online friend and the guy she'd been daydreaming about were the same person.
Heat rushed to her face as the realization hit her fully. She had spent so much time talking about her crush to Niki, only to find out it was the same person all along. Her cheeks turned red, and she quickly looked down, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her.
