The minutes ticked by slowly as they waited in silent hallway. Eunha kept her eyes on the floor, her mind racing with fears she couldn't shake off.
She hadn't moved from her spot beside Eunji, who continued to hold her hand, her thumb gently rubbing soothing circles on Eunha's palm.
Niki and Sunghoon remained nearby, casting reassuring glances her way, their silent presence comforting her in a way words couldn't.
Finally, a doctor emerged from the hallway "He is stable now." the doctor said, his voice calm. "He's resting and will need some monitoring, but you can see him."
A wave of relief washed over them, and Eunha felt her shoulders sag. Her father was okay, at least for now. Eunji gave her hand an encouraging squeeze, her smile gentle.
She glanced at her mother, who stood a few paces away, arms crossed and face unreadable. There was no acknowledgment from her, no permission or comforting words.
Then without a word, Eunha turned and headed down the hall alone, feeling the weight of her mother's silence press down on her shoulders.
She glanced back once, catching Niki's steady, supportive gaze. He nodded, giving her a silent encouragement that filled her with a bit of strength.
As she entered her father's room, she paused, taking in the sight of him lying in the hospital bed, pale but breathing steadily.
The relief was immediate, but it did little to erase the ache in her chest.
"Dad." she whispered, approaching his bedside.
He opened his eyes slowly, and a faint smile crossed his lips when he saw her. "Eunha," he murmured, his voice weak but warm. "You're here."
A wave of emotion surged through her, and she gently took his hand, holding it between her own. "I was so scared, Dad," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
He squeezed her hand, his grip feeble but reassuring. "I'm okay honey, no need to worry." he said with a small smile.
She nodded, finally smiling.
She then grabbed a chair and sat beside her father, still holding his hand. "But what are you doing here? Weren't you away for work?"
Her father's smile deepened, his tired eyes lighting up as he looked at her. "I'd been planning to surprise you after your big moment. I was supposed to join the party and celebrate after you said yes to Niki."
Eunha's face lit up with a bright smile, one she couldn't hold back. "You really had everything planned out?" she asked, her voice warm with surprise and excitement.
Her father's smile mirrored hers. "Of course." he replied, with a hint of mischief in his tired eyes. "I wanted to make sure everything was perfect for you. And besides that young man of yours wouldn't let me rest until I promised I'd be there."
Eunha smiled, "Thank you." she said as she hugged her father.
"Happy early birthday honey, you look gorgeous with this dress." He said as he hugged her too.
As she sat with her father, the door opened quietly, and Niki stepped in, glancing between the two with a gentle smile.
He moved closer, his eyes filled with the same warmth she'd felt during his proposal.
"Niki," her father said, his voice weaker but steady. "You take good care of her, alright?"
Niki nodded, his gaze unwavering as he replied, "I promise, sir." He reached out to hold Eunha's hand, squeezing it gently.
