I closed my eyes a bit and then I heard a small knock. I got up and
put my robe on. I made sure Beth was covered. I opened it and Kyra
was standing there rubbing her tiny eyes.

"Daddy." I picked her up and took her in her room. She never really
talked about what happened but thank the heavens she didn't see it.
She curled up to me and wouldn't let me go. Before I knew it my jet
lag kicked in and I was asleep.

Totally forgot I was just in my robe and Rick woke me early that
morning. "Mate wake up."

"What?" I bellowed rolling on the bed and it was empty.

"Yer bird is gone. So are the girls."

"What time is it?"

"6:30."

"Fuck. Probably took them to breakfast before school."

"You sleep in here all night in the buff."

I sat up. "What, I'm in a robe. Can I go back to sleep?"

"No Josh is up and we all want to see Beth and talk to her."

I looked at him through tired eyes. "Christ." I got up and made my
stiff way to Josh.

"Uh Joe it's..."

"Rick back off." Lauren said as I picked up Josh. "Come back to
bed." I sat down in the rocker with him and feed him a bottle. I
changed him and put him back down.

"Ok little man. Let da get dress and I'll take you down so you can
play." I went to do my morning stuff. Figure since I was up might as
well. I got him down and put him in the play area.

"The cleaning crew will be here soon." Charlie said. I seen Charlie sitting there.

"Are you going to arrest her?"

"No it was self defense. Cassie took the girls to school this
morning. Beth's in the sauna. Says she doesn't want anyone to see
her this morning but you."

I looked at him and went to the pool room. The pool was a mess full
of blood and it would take all day for them to clean it out. I went
in the sauna and she was sitting there in nothing but a
towel. "Figured this would be the only place we'd get peace. Will you sit
with me?"

I started removing my shirt and she stood up. She stopped me and
took it off slowly. It wasn't really hot in there, but it heated up
quick. "Mm. Josh is up." I said softly.

"So let Cassie do her job for a change. Oi want to be with you.
Alone." I knew I should of got her dress but she had a point. I
wanted to be alone as well and totally forgot about the game I had.
Didn't care. We were in a quit soundproof room alone and it would
be the last place anyone would look for us.

Only Charlie knew where we were but didn't bother us. We made slow
love making again and I held her in my arms up against me once we
finished. I still couldn't help but want answers.

Both Rick's had been hiding the truth from the both of us. But
finding the answers was something I already knew. It wouldn't change
our feeling to one another and it was something that happened for a
reason. That reason was so we could be right where we are now.

That afternoon as I held her she was in between my legs with her
back to me up in my arms. I was sitting up against the wall. It was
the first time in awhile we done that. I took my watch off and tossed
it in the hot coals.

"What you do dat for?"

"Because I don't care what time it is anymore. I feel me whole life has
been rushed because of time. Schedules. I'm tired of it. I just want
to live in the moment like now. Was suppose to be playing today but
I don't care."

"Really." She turned around to me.

"Really." We kissed and one thing led to another and we shagged
again. So from that moment on I vowed to myself I wasn't going to
push anymore. It was taken a toll on me and I figured I'd get it
done when I wanted. Finally seen all of Rick's new stuff.

So when people would say to me I seem more relaxed or at ease. I
just smile and say just living life the way I want to at my own
pace. When you do that you can get things done better. Learned some
of that during the Hysteria but always felt I had to rush or we'd be
forgotten.

It all worked out. "What time do you think it is?" She said.

"Mm. Don't know but I really need a drink and so do you." It was
starting to get hot in there and we had been in there for god knows
how long. I was started to feel tired and if I didn't get up I would
never be able to.

"It is hot in here and Oi'm a bit hungry." I got up and got dressed.
I turned off the coals.

"You don't 'ave any clothes in here do you?" She sat there holding
the towel against her.

"Not really."

"You came down here in the buff?"

"Uh no me robe is in the changing room. Just don't want to see dat
room."

I looked at her. "How'd you get in here then?"

"Well the robe has a hood, actually it's a cloak. Then I just ran in
here from the other room."

"Cloak not the sexy one you wore..."

"Ahe dat same one. Only it's a bit hard to keep it closed." I raised
my eyes up at her.

"Stay put. Tell you what, I'll go get you some clothes, hat whatever
you want and see who's all here."

"Ok Oi really don't want anyone to see me."

"Ok then I'll drape the clock around you but you'll be dressed." She
smiled at me and I left. They were just finishing pumping the water
out of the pool.

I went in the house and Lauren looked at me. She was feeding
Josh. "Joe she really needs a female to talk to."

"She doesn't want to see anyone right now."

"Then let me talk to her. Joe you want her to be fully back to you
then let me do this." I looked at her.

"She is back."

"No she's not Joe and you know it. Think about it. She's just
putting on a stage face to you." I thought about it and realized she
was. "Would you rather go on thinking everything's ok and then two
days later find her OD on her pain medication or would you
rather 'ave a female friend talk to her?"

"Ok but I have to get her some clothes. Where's the guys?"

"At the game and trust me Sav wasn't happy you disappeared."

"Swear a man can't piss without Sav being mad." She laughed and put
Josh back down. I ran up and get her some clothes. I gave them to
Lauren and she took them to her. I picked Josh up and left to go get
the girls.

Later on that evening I changed my security system. Lauren and Beth
sat out there half the afternoon. I spent my time talking to the
girls. Bell understood but it was harder on Kyra. She just wanted us
to be happy.

While we were eating my buzzer went off and Phil's voice echoed
through the house. "Mate you changed the code."

I gave him the new one and they came in the front door chatting.
Rick looked at me. "Lauren is still with Beth. Was going to bring
them some food but I got me hands full."

He held up a bag of fast food and I laughed. He left to go give it
to them and then sat down next to me as we started watching the
replay of the game. "Sav's pretty pissed still."

"Don't give a shit. They eat?"

"Left the food by the door. Beth still won't see us. It's ok as long
as she doesn't try to take off."

"She won't get far. Triggered the alarm to go off if she touches any
doors. Just as a precaution. So I advice all you not to touch any
doors or windows." I hated to do that but I didn't want her taken
off in an unknown state.

Once I knew she was ok I'd get it to its normal mode. We all were
watching the game and the alarm went off. I jumped up and ran to the
pool room. Lauren was standing at the door.

"She's outside. Right outside. She won't run Joe really." I turned
the alarm off. I went out. I found her standing against a pole soft
rain coming down on her. She stood there with her back to me, her
arms spread out open and looking up to let the soft rain fall on her.

I seen Sav standing by the pole and since I was in all black I hid
myself from their view in the dark mist. "Beth."

She jumped and turned to him. He had his back to me now. I knew she
would see me. "Rick."

"I had to see you. You are so beautiful." His hand went to her wet
bruised face. She grabbed it.

"Rick don't."

"You taught me once dat it doesn't matter what's on the out. It's
here dat counts. I should of told you years ago dat I loved you
since we first met. But we were only 16."

"We were 12. Oi remember. When Oi was 16 Oi was with Joe spending me
last days in Sheffield."

"You remember."

"Of course Oi remember. Oi remember the bridge when you kissed me
for the first time."

"Joe told me how I broke yer heart."

She stepped back and lit a fag. "You didn't. Me heart was always
with Joe."

"Oh please. He told me how you came to him in tears the night you
seen me and Paige 'aving dinner then how he took you on the couch
with Barbie right upstairs. I should of gave us a chance and I
didn't. Baby you and Joe were the only ones who made me see dat me
Bell's wasn't the end of the world. Let me love you."

"Don't do this to me Savy. Oi'm married now to Joe yer best mate.
You 'ave all you ever wanted. Paige, a son and one on the way."

"How do you know?"

"She told me. Was scared of having two all alone but she's not
alone. She's mad at you. Rick look at you. You 'ave a woman dat
loves you with a healthy son. Oi'm a bit jealous of dat."

"Why?" He leaned against the pole and she put the fag out.

"Because Oi can't 'ave anymore kids." I noticed her cast getting a bit
wet and he pulled her to him. He put the jacket on her arm.

"Joe is the luckiest son of bitch. I'm here to tell you no matter
what you are beautiful, sexy, funny, romantic and I'll love you no
matter what. So will Joe. If he doesn't he's a fool. Don't let Nick
get the best of you. I once did and it almost cost me step daughter."

"What step daughter?"

"Not everyone knows everything about me. Just know because of you I
had a reason to wake up. Look at it this way. It was you or him
possibly the kids. You did what you had to, just do it to yer
nightmares."

He ran his hand along her wet face. He cupped it and kissed her. She
pushed him. "Don't. Go home. Oi can't do this again. Oi love Joe.
You deserve to be loved back and Oi can't give you dat." She walked
away from him and back in the house.

I stood there a bit and then stepped in the light. "Hey mate. I
didn't hear you."

I pushed him against the pole. "Just what the hell do you think yer
doing. She's very vulnerable right now. How dare you take advantage of
it. We're married now. Yer me best mate. Don't show yer face around
us again until you get dat in yer head. I appreciate you talking with
her but watch yerself mate or you'll find me fist up yer arse." I
let him go and went in.

When I walked in the living room she was standing in front of the
telly all eyes on her. "Who wants to play strip poker and compare
scares?" She said.

She looked at me and winked. They all raised their hands. "Uh what
about the kids?" Jewels said.

"Well we can play at Joe's new poker table in the study by candle
lit and 'ave the door locked. Cassie's here and she looks after them
every once in awhile. It will be fun but uh Rick yer stump don't count."

He fell off the couch laughing. So I found myself in a candle lit
room and it brought back old memories of playing this very game only
Sav was there. This time he wasn't and it was good to see her laugh
at everyone's scares including her own.

We all had them from football injures to Rick's car accident. I
believe only Jewels and Anita didn't but we all still had a blast.
She pulled me to her and got in my lap. I was the first one out of
the game. She was down to her bra and panties.

We were also taken shots. She even got Phil, Rick and Vivian to
drink. The only one who was still fully clothed was Anita. Phil had
his shirt off. Vivian was down to his knickers so was Rick. Jewels,
Beth, and Lauren were in their bra and panties.

When Beth sat on my lap she looked at me and whispered in my
ear. "How long were you outside?"

"Long enough." I smacked her leg. Not hard but playful. I was in a
mood of I don't care as long as I knew she was ok. She smiled and
kissed me.

"Hey none of dat until one of us wins the game. By the way lovely
tattoo Beth. When did you get it?" Rick said.

She looked at him. "You've know Oi've had this tattoo."

"Yeah but I never noticed it or got a good look at it until now."

"Got it Christmas eve of 97' before the car accident."

"Mm would explain Joe's mood the following year."
