Chapter Ten

it was gracie's album release party. the music was loud, the lights dim, and everyone was having fun. gracie was at the center of it all, surrounded by friends, laughing and chatting away.

madi stood nearby, feeling her nerves rise with every second. she knew she had to talk to gracie tonight. this couldn't wait any longer. taking a deep breath, she made her way over to gracie.

"gray, can you come with me for a second?" madi's voice was quiet, a little shaky. gracie turned to her, eyebrows furrowing in concern.

"uh, sure," gracie said, glancing at tay and sabrina before following madi out of the crowd. tay and sabrina watched as madi and gracie walked away

"let's go listen," sabrina whispered to tay, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.

tay shook her head firmly. "sabrina, no. we're not doing that. they deserve their privacy," she said, trying to be the voice of reason. she crossed her arms, refusing to take part in whatever sabrina was plotting. she really didn't want to know what was happening in that room, it felt wrong to even think about eavesdropping.

but sabrina wasn't about to give up. she rolled her eyes. "fine, but i'm going," she said stubbornly. without another word, she started following madi and gracie. tay sighed, not wanting to be left behind. she didn't want to spy on them, but she also didn't want to leave sabrina alone. so, reluctantly, she trailed behind.

sabrina crouched by the door, pressing her ear against it. tay stood back, arms crossed tightly, staring at the floor. her stomach twisted with guilt. she didn't want to be here, this felt so wrong. she wished she was anywhere but here.

"tay, you gotta come listen," sabrina urged, motioning her over. tay shook her head, refusing to move closer.

"no, i'm not listening," tay muttered, her voice firm. she was already standing too close for comfort. this wasn't right.

"it's about travis," sabrina whispered, her tone changing to something more serious. tay froze, her heart thudding in her chest. travis? what did madi have to say about travis? she felt a rush of panic and, despite every part of her not wanting to be there, she took a hesitant step forward. she had to know, didn't she?

inside the room, madi was taking a deep breath, her voice trembling as she spoke. "kayla's been cheating on travis," she confessed. "and... it's worse than that. she's pregnant. with patrick's baby."

gracie gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. she stared at madi in shock, not knowing how to respond. outside, tay felt like the ground had dropped out from under her. travis's girlfriend, kayla, was cheating on him? and she was pregnant? how could this be happening?

suddenly, the door swung open, and there stood madi, eyes wide and blazing. "how much of that did you hear?" she demanded, looking right at tay and sabrina.

tay swallowed hard. "enough," she managed to get out.

madi sighed and stepped aside. "then come in. i'm not gonna let you hear just half the truth. if you're gonna know, you're gonna know everything." she opened the door wider, and tay walked in, her heart racing.

madi turned to gracie, then to tay and sabrina. "kayla's been sneaking around with patrick for months," she began, filling them in on every awful detail. "she's pregnant with his baby."

she took a shaky breath, glancing at gracie's stunned face. "there's more," she continued, her voice breaking a little. "kayla's brother... he raped me when we were 16. and kayla knew. she didn't do anything. she just stayed quiet, like it never happened."

gracie's hands flew to her mouth, her eyes filling with tears. sabrina stood frozen, unable to process everything she was hearing. tay felt like her heart was breaking with every word madi spoke, tay stepped forward and wrapped her arms around madi, pulling her into a tight hug. tears stung at her eyes as she held madi close.
