delilah's fourth year

Her hands were clenched in balls, her fingernails digging into her cold palms. The heat of the morning rays of sun shining through the large arched window of the Gryffindor common room brought her some comfort but not enough.

Hermoine stood before her and brushed her hands through Lilah's brown hair, ensuring she looked absolutely perfect. Ginny stood next to Hermoine with a broad smile on her face, bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Neville sat on the couch, watching the girls fuss over Delilah like a doll. Ginny threw her body down next to him, "Want to go spy on them?" Ginny whispered to Neville.

When the big Hogsmeade date arrived, Delilah found herself more nervous than excited. Of course, Ginny and Hermoine had made it their mission to make sure Delilah was ready.

Delilah went to Ginny's dorm to water the plants she had gifted her, but her best friend tended to neglect them. "I don't want to see her snogging someone," Neville said, his nose scrunched at the thought of his friend, whom he saw as a little sister, being intimate with a boy.

Ginny rolled her eyes at him and looked towards Hermoine, who sat with her legs crossed. "Ginny, that would be an invasion of their privacy," Hermoine replied, pursing her lips without waiting for Ginny's impending question.

"Lilah would've said yes." Ginny pouted, arms crossed. Delilah always agreed to follow Ginny wherever she went. She really wondered why both Potters weren't in Gryffindor.

Delilah walked down the steps, chewing on her bottom lip. Of course, she just got a deadly look from one of Ginny's roommates. Most of Ginny's roommates didn't mind Delilah's presence, but Roxanne Dean wasn't a fan.

She took a spot on the couch between Ginny and Neville, immediately resting her head on Ginny's shoulder. "I'm really nervous, " she admitted.

"Then you shouldn't go," Neville said with a nod as if he had made up his own mind.

"Longbottom!" Ginny scolded, "Delly, you will have so much fun, and if you don't, I will come to save you."

Lilah couldn't help but smile. She had the best friends in the world. "What's the worst that could happen?" Hermoine rationalized.

"We lose our friendship." Delilah's smile faded slightly. "I've liked him so much for so long, but what if he doesn't...."

"Doesn't?" Ginny pushed.

"See me that way? All the girls in Hufflepuff fancy him. Why would he pick me."

"Because you're one of the best people ever to exist." Ginny stood up, grabbing Delilah's hand. "Come on, you better not think anything bad like that, not about my best friend." Ginny looked at Lilah, putting her hands on Lilah's shoulders.

Delilah nodded, and Ginny pulled her in for a hug. Lilah smoothed out her plaid pencil skirt, which she borrowed from Ginny. She wore her favorite black tights and brown turtleneck long-sleeve, which matched her Hufflepuff scarf and coat perfectly.

She waved goodbye to Neville and Hermoine, who both gave her a thumbs up. She always got turned around when coming to the Gryffindor common room, but leaving was a bit easier for some reason.

They planned to meet in the courtyard next to one of the numerous sculptures surrounding the school. Delilah drew a deep breath as she stepped over to the boy waiting for her.

Simon was sporting his wide smile, which made Delilah's knees weak. "Ready to go, Little Potter?" He offered his arm.

"Of course, Mister Hearst." Delilah joked, moving closer to him and accepting his invitation. They walked over the crunchy leaves that led to Hogsmeade.
