delilah's third year
The boys stood in their dormitory, getting ready for the long-awaited ball. Theodore rolled up his sleeve cuffs on the white dress shirt his father had sent him.
"I can't believe you are going with Little Potter." Blaise stood across from him, pulling at his own collar and adjusting it to be precisely the way he wanted it, like the perfectionist he was.
Theodore shrugged; he didn't mind the female Potter's presence. She wasn't like the other girls, who seemed to giggle when he was around. She could hold his conversation and didn't have an agenda. Little Potter was the easiest person to read; her face told the whole story.
He wasn't attracted to her; she was just someone he could tolerate. "Yeah, she's fine. I knew she would say yes."
Part of the reason he asked her was to ask someone that the others would wish was their date. In his Defense Against the Dark Arts class, he heard about some Gryffindor and Ravenclaw boys who hoped to ask the younger sister of a Hogwarts champion.
Gregory scoffed at Theodore. Gregory Goyle's annoyance towards his roommate had grown since he had announced his date smugly in the common room. He most certainly wasn't going to ask Delilah himself. He would instead rather her not go at all.
"Well, you're lucky your date isn't repulsive to look at." Crabbe chimed in, dragging his feet away from the bathroom. He made sure to let everyone know how unfortunate it was that he had been left with Josie Mugtoft—a younger Slytherin known to have a personality as ugly as her looks.
"Mate, you're the one who asked her," Blaise retorted. He was fed up with Crabbe's incessant complaints.
Draco joined the other boys who noticed his expensive dress clothes, which his family sent him. The watch on his wrist was a new gift from his mother, who had ordered it from the finest watchmaker in the magical world. Of course, it was the norm for Draco to have the best of the best.
It didn't matter to Theodore, who could care less about showing money off. It annoyed Blaise, who thought Draco was a complete idiot but would never say it to his face. Crabbe and Goyle, on the other hand, were jealous of their friend.
Parkinson was Draco's date at the party, and she immediately said yes before he could finish his question. She was pretty enough, and his parents approved of her.
He knew he would most likely get a yes from plenty of girls, but he still went with the safe option of the girl who showed her affection outwardly towards him numerous times. He found her admiration for him the opposite of attractive, but he didn't think she would embarrass him that night.
Draco was surprised by Nott's choice of date. He was used to Nott choosing the expected, but this was unexpected. He chalked up the situation to Nott wanting attention and using Little Potter as a tool.
He rolled his neck out and stretched his arms, dreading the impending party. Zabini and Nott were the only ones who didn't look as grouchy as the others.
"See you lads later," Zabini smirked and walked out of the room. He was more than happy to participate in the Yule Ball; after all, he had a date with the Beauxbottom girl. Their romance started at the beginning of the year, and Zabini confessed he was already falling for her.
Nott cleared his throat. "I ought to go; I don't know where my date will be." He strode out of the room.
When Nott left, Goyle let out a low, almost guttural sound. He glared at the door like it was the mudblood first years he had made his mission to bully. Draco found himself rolling his eyes, typical Goyle.
