delilah's fourth year
She slid the plant across the wooden slab table. The two Slytherin boys sat on their metal stools, looking at the unusual blue plants. Theodore leaned forward, inspecting what Delilah had done to revive his.
Blaise, on the other hand, was suspicious of her help. After Theo had spoken about how he had managed to manipulate the Potter girl to do his herbology plant project for him, Blaise wanted to see how good she really was at the subject.
It surprised him how quickly she fixed Theo's dried-out plant. He decided to allow her to see his. "You shouldn't have to do much with mine, " he said with a smug smirk.
Delilah pressed her fingertips in the dirt. Lifting her hand up, she noticed the soil sticking to her fingers. "It's great! Maybe just a little less water," she told him with a sweet smile.
"Less water, Zabini," Theo mocked his friend, who had earlier been all too confident about his ability in the herbology department.
"Fuck you, Nott."
Blaise rolled his eyes at Theo, and Delilah tried not to laugh at the interaction. She rested her head on her hand, looking between the boys. "What's the problem, Potter?" Theo asked with a chuckle as he kicked Blaise in the shin beneath the table.
"Why are you guys even talking to me?" Her heart thumped in her chest as they both had a look of confusion on their faces. Delilah had pondered it all day since, in the morning, the two boys came up to her after her potions class finished.
"You're not bad with the plants and much less annoying than that, git Neville." Theo shrugged as if the insult to her friend meant nothing. Delilah's face morphed into one of surprise.
"He basically taught me everything I know," She said, glaring between the two boys, who were not the least bit bothered by her stare.
"Well, now we can ask you instead." Blaise stuffed his hands in his pockets.
Theo leaned over the table, "plus, Puffs are known to be trustworthy."
"Unlike snakes," Delilah said, pointing at Theo. A smile pulled on her pink lips, making her appear even less intimidating than she had hoped.
Blaise chuckled, "Oh? Mouths on them too?"
Lilah pulled the sleeves of her yellow jumper, which were much too long, over her hands. Her arms crossed over her chest. " I learned that from my Gryffindor friends."
At the mention of the rival house, Theo fake gagged. His dramatic acting made it impossible for Delilah not to laugh at the boy's ridiculousness. The competition between the Slytherins and Gryffindors had been fierce this year, and both of their quidditch teams were doing some of their best, so it only sharpened the division.
The boys and Lilah continued to joke around with one another. Delilah was surprised by how quickly she got along with the boys. The things people had said about the Slytherin house were false rumors.
The Hufflepuff house was known to befriend everyone, but many still avoided the Slytherin house. They had their dark wizards, but it would be unfair to judge everyone based on a few bad apples.
This morning started off rough, with Lilah swearing it wasn't her day. She woke up late after a long night of tossing and turning in her sleep. Her hair wouldn't cooperate, so she hopped out of her dormitory and slipped her shoes on.
Professor Snape didn't tolerate absences, and she had been on his good side for her first few years at Hogwarts and didn't want that to change today. She felt disheveled, taking her seat next to Simon, with her brown hair in a messy ponytail.
