Deleted scene 1
This was supposed to be a cute scene between Jack and Y/n, but I couldn't find anywhere to put it without making it awkward.
Leaves crunched and sticks snapped under my shoes as Jack led me through the forest. Some branches clung to my shirt, and I was reminded of my first day here, when I climbed the mountain and didn't know my life would be changed forever. Eventually, the ground evened out a little, and then I felt something soft like sand under my feet.
"Okay," I heard Jack's voice in my ear. "You can open your eyes now." I opened them and saw a small lake with a large boulder next to it in a wide clearing. The lake opened up into a small stream, which flowed into the ocean. Flowers grew around the edge of the lake and creepers hung low over the ground.
It wasn't exactly Simon's forest clearing, but I thought it was very pretty.
"It's so...so...relaxing." And it was. There was something about the way the stream quietly burbled into the ocean and the way the creepers cast long shadows that made me feel at peace.
"I found this yesterday when I was exploring a bit," Jack said, proud of himself. "Thought you might like it a bit."
"I do," I said happily. "The lake looks really refreshing."
"Well, there's no one to tell you not to swim in it," Jack said, starting to pull off his shorts. "So let's go!" I turned away and covered my eyes.
"Um, I'm not taking off my clothes or anything-"
"Who said you had to?" I peeked through my fingers and saw him standing there in a pair of white underwear. I flushed red, not knowing what to do with myself. "Come on, Y/n, jump in or something!" He climbed to the top of the boulder and jumped in, shouting, "CANNONBALL!!!" I held up my arms to shield myself as a spray of water splashed from the lake, but I still got wet.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming in!" I unbuttoned my shirt and took off my skirt, feeling extremely exposed. Calm down, I told myself as I laid my flower crown and the mysterious yellow and white flower on my clothes. You've been in your bra and underwear around Ralph and Piggy and Maurice. Why should Jack be any different?
I climbed to the top of the boulder and gulped. It was higher than I anticipated.
"Come on!" Jack said encouragingly, treading water to stay afloat. "It's not that bad, I promise!" Just jump, what's the worst thing that can happen? You get a little wet, well, that's what you've been doing ever since you started playing with everyone on this island because you're always in the water!
Jack suddenly lunged out of the water, a mischievous gleam in his eyes, and grabbed my wrists, pulling me in.
"Hey, wait!" I protested, but then I hit the water and went under, making strange gargling noises. I popped up, trying and failing to glare furiously at that damn Jack Merridew, who was laughing.
"What the heck, I was going to jump eventually!" I giggled, playfully splashing him.
"You're too slow, you know?" Jack asked, playfully splashing me back.
"I am not slow," I said, trying to cross my arms and look intimidating, but ended up going under because I stopped using my arms to keep me afloat. I popped back up, flipping my wet hair over my shoulder. "As I was saying-"
"I'll race you to the ocean, then!" Jack announced, pointing at the stream that ran into the ocean. "Three, two, one, go!"
"Wait, I can't swim!" I protested as Jack began swimming-quite fast, I had to admit-into the stream and towards the ocean. I had never been taught how to swim, only how to tread water in the town pool. Still, I could get from one end of the pool to the other by doing a very messy but somewhat effective doggy paddle, and this is how I made my way across the stream and into the ocean.
